This is lazy voting at best. Yes Walsh got a lot of the ball but watching the game a couple of times, one of his poorer games in terms of seizing key moments and subsequently responsible for releasing pressure when the game could have been put to bed much earlier. His delivery inside 50 was apalling. For a guy of that ilk he needs to be judged as such.

I'm trusting the coaches that spend more time focusing on the game than anyone else. Especially over a poster on a forum

Why?

No way was Walsh BOG.

See the breakdown, KH was very harsh on Crippa. Vossy got it right, though I'd have 4 votes TDK before Walshy.

And zero chance JHF deserved 4 votes.

Trusting a salty coach whose team has just been spanked by his ex assistant. Yep in Ken I trust.

If you thought those 5 inside 50 **** ups by Walsh, 4 directly onto the chest of Allir + the HTB inside 50 in the last, were BOG material by all means go your hardest.

Never said I thought he was best on. Just saying I trust the opinion and judgement of an AFL coach than a poster on BF

The coaches don't do the votes...

2023 our top 2 in the coaches votes by absolute miles were Charlie and Cripps..

Our top 2 in the best and fairest were weits and Newman....

One of those results is very much a coaches vote. The other... another stat watching award.

I’d suggest that the different voting methods would account for that sort of difference.

I wouldn't. I know fly doesn't do the pies votes..... I just don't know any other clubs situation, but there's also the logic that clubs, and coaches especially, don't really care much about external individual awards and aside from the top guys like naicos/Bont/gawn it generally does not align with club bnfs.

McKay has been a bit down the past 3 weeks but got back on the scoreboard on Thursday. He still missed a good 3 or 4 marks he probably should have taken in the forward line. He is due a big one this week.
Think he needs to stay settled in that second ruck centre half fwd role - his early season form was brilliant and last two weeks been on the up

At least you'd think that's Walsh's delivery issues can be fixed in short order?

I’d agree.
Whilst we are talking “first world problems here” I think Voss has some frustration with Walsh’s obsessive hunt for the ball at times.
He’d love some more outside options for Walsh to “share” the football I believe. It’s why players like Cerra are so vitally important to our team structure.
The issue is Walsh’s other obsession, his relentless hunt for the footy and his ability to run over most other footballers.
How do you receive the footy from somebody that in most situations is forward of you?
It’s the next incarnation for Walsh. To spread the football and create “better” more “creative” options for the overall betterment of the team.
He needs to work on that, his teammates need to work just as hard to create those opportunities for him. That’s no easy task.
This evolution would make us a three to four goal better team and Walsh pretty much the best player in the game.

Interesting response and one not without merit.

The way I’ll respond to that is twofold:
1. In a clubs bnf, I would be shocked if all of the coaches don’t have a vote. I’m Team Manager for a fairly decent U14 team, and it’s not unusual for each of the coach and 2 assistants to be very different in their thoughts and votes.
2. I don’t think the coaches votes will take in everything holistically like the bnf votes would ie bnf could/would be very conscious of roles within a team every week and how that role is performed. I’ll bet Cincotta gets quite a few votes when looking at the bnf at the end of the season for the last 3 weeks

I mean - Hinkley has as much interest in the system working properly because he has his own players to worrry about.” (or at least should).

It’s also entirely possibly that AFL coaches see the game differently to others. They might value his overall impact on the game more than a couple of errant disposals.

It’s a defensible vote for mine.

Clubs might not want to draw too much attention to the role players via the votes in-season, whereas at the bnf the season is over.

JN medal is 4 coaches rating every player from 0-4 votes (ie maximum 16 votes per player per game). Very different structure, and absolutely rewards role players doing their job, without necessarily being a top 5 player on the ground.

Both coaches had the same top 4 players on the ground, just in a different order.

Hardly egregious and not worth the conspiracy theories about who's actually giving the votes.

it's not an easy task but he only has to look to his midfield partner and captain who has adapted his game this year to be more of a team player, sometimes you need to sacrifice ego for system and improve the whole team, not just hit PBs on stats

Votes by coaches are different to the average punter, as we don't know what the brief is for the player within the team

No matter how you look at it, JHF was one of the best on the night
