2024 VFL Season - Finals

Theirs 3 games left, thell wait until seasons end before the club is moving un a different direction or due to a amicable mutual agreement port has parted ways blah blah post comes out.

Then again general consensus was that he wouldn't be here this year and they resigned him so all i know in the days of old Port would be led by a different coach but who knows how this committee thinks for all we know he could do some smooth talking with some sugar coating speeches and keep his job. My guess would be that next season Port will be led by a different coach but it won't be announced until the season is concluded.
A bit hampered by injury are Port Melbourne. Still, 5 goals up with 20 minutes to go and they lose. Went very defensive, very early.

True hampered by injury but it wasnt the injured players that got Port up by 5 goals going into the last quarter. Last quarter we hardly got the ball in our 50, Coburg looked like top of the table contenders whilst we looked under the pump all quarter and 2nd rate.

Agree with the comment that it appears we are happy to just make up the numbers, wouldn't have been the case years ago, our forefathers would be turning in their graves.

Interesting comment Bedford, 2nd person who ive heard mention finances (other comment was off line before the game). 2 in less than 48 hours - could there be truth to the rumours!

Losing Hooper hurts big time , but must be change

Ironically for the Borough supporters here calling for Gary Ayres to be brought back, earlier tonight the Montrose Football Club announced he had committed to them for another two seasons.
No wonder with Gaz's record , but he's been living out that way , so close to home with less stress

Have some human decency toss.. they do have a 3-2 record against top 7 teams with one of those losses seeing them outshoot the Dogs.. unfortunately being 2-4 against 16th-21st is horrible but would put that more on the players and their mindsets.. not sure how a coach can be fully blamed when their team somehow has a better record and more wins against top 7 teams compared to bottom 6 teams.. you going to blame effort and execution on a coach? Cause there are massive differences when they come up against a top team v a bottom team and if you watch them play, you'd evidently see that

Doesn't matter, you play against whats infront of you. Port have underachieved the last two seasons considering how good their list was made out to be

Interesting stats, good work. Never seen / heard anything like this scenario in any sport and its incomprehensible.

On a side note those who wanted Gary back (as we know was never going to happen) may have forgotten to consider Gary lives a fair way away and his business is no longer in the local area, another drawing point removed from the equation.

Not sure their list is that strong. Midfield is just. Green solid. Hird ok but no world beater. Hooper now injured. Defence Rosman and Highmore been pretty good. Billy G and the forwards have been hit and miss. Quite a few injuries. Fitness a query. Last quarters yuk. They are probably a 50% win team at best.

Disagree, their list is good. The team they have been able to get on the park each week just hasn't been anywhere near it's best. You are forgetting four ex afl players in McComb, Smith, McKenzie, Turner who have been in and out all year.
The coach has had an unlucky run with injuries/unavailability this year but even without the mentioned players they still should be beating the bottom teams.

Lets see how many of those ex AFL players stick around..list retention is everything at VFL level especially stand alones...and its been poor in recent seasons.

Perhaps that's a better way to describe it. I guess I'm saying what they're putting out on the park each week is a solid team but not a great one.

They've recruited too many ex AFL players and they've been seen as all the problems been solved, when really they're just an attempt at a quick fix.
They need to develop a core group of good players that stick around like they had with Toby Pinwill, Chris Cain, Sam Dwyer, Robin Nahas etc. Obviously the latter two spent some time away as they were drafted, but they both returned.

As it stands, its just Hooper, no one else has been there as long as he has. The ex AFL players should be the cherry on top, not relied upon to suddenly make them go from underachievers to top 4 with the click of a finger.

James Hird deserves a chance to coach Port Melbourne with a clean state imo.

I have always thought he was thrown under the bus by certain powerful big figures at Essendon and I don't think he was even closely responsible for being the architect about what when down.

Would probably get another couple of thousands to Borough games every week if they appoint Hird.
He was a pretty good game day coach at Essendon at the time (if you forget about the controversy for a moment)

Would be a fantastic coup for Port and the VFL imo
