Changes to the points model

https://www.afl.com.au/news/1223455/the-draft-change-adding-another-element-to-upcoming-trade-frenzy

Across the changes, around 10,000 points have been shaved off the DVI in the new system, including taking away points for any pick after No.54. Under the previous system, points were attached to picks through to No.73. The No.1 pick value will remain at 3000 points but there will be a steeper drop-off in points thereafter. From picks 2-10, all of those picks are worth at least 100 points fewer in next year's model, while that gap grows as the draft goes on.

Pick 20 in the current model is worth 912 points and in the new model will be worth 757 points. Pick 30 in the current model garners a club 629 points but in the new model will have only 454 points attached to it. By pick 40, the gap is almost at 200 points – this year will be the last time it is worth 429 points and next year it has been assigned 238 points.

Will the draft value changes have any affect on clubs selecting the academy kids? If they have more than a couple will they be able to afford them all? As an example, how would it have affected the points Brisbane required in getting Ashcroft and Marshall?

Just means they’ll need better picks.

GC have 3 of the top 12 or so prospects, Sydney 3 in the top 20 or so. GC have a lot of early picks so are in a good position. Sydney less so at this point

Get it rolling.

25 likely types a year out. Midfield Strength and Key Defenders our likely priority

Irrelevant to us. Our first pick likely to be mid 30's at best - unless we offload one of our ageing guns for picks.

This year started like that.

We've got a few out of contract

Sinn.
Farrell.
Dante.
Bergman.

We'd like a player like Tyson Sharp if Richmond take the good Duursma?

We'll see how things play out.

Everyone's been saying the 2025 draft class is expected to be pretty weak.

If that's the case, we might draft F/S only

Dyson Sharp, Fred Rodriguez and Zeke Uwland the standouts for me.

I think Dyson is head-and-shoulders above the rest, but a lot can change in a year, and Fred Rodriguez showed a lot this year as a bottom-ager to suggest he'll be a player you can build around.

Sharp definitely the standout.

I’m a big fan of Greeves and Ludowyke as well

Our father sons have to be the kind of players other clubs want.

Sal's son on the horizon Louis Salopek 2027 will be our next Father Son I suspect.

On the upside apparently he's a borderline insane Port supporter and wants to be here.

2027 a big year for us if it falls our way...

Tevita Rodan
Louis Salopek
And Zemes Pilot could be the best of the lot if he stays with footy!

Jake Bishop
Darcy Thurstans
Ben Francou
Charlie Wilson
Tom Wilson

2026 Nate Tredrea
Ethan Kingsley
Raphael Cornes

2027 Sonny Cornes
