2x Thursday and 2x Friday night games in the first 16 rounds is unheard of for us, that 3 week stretch will be massive! Need to go at least 2/3 there.

Also anyone else heard that Collingwood are contracted to play at least 5 away games at the MCG per year? Something about a deal with the AFL and the Vic government and money for the MCG redevelopment.

Strictly speaking it's a deal that guarantees minimum of 14 H&A games featuring Collingwood are played at the MCG oer year. It was part of the concessions the AFL gave to get out of the deal forcing them to play at least one preliminary final at the MCG each year, which led to Brisbane having to play their home prelim at the MCG back in the day. Another part of the deal I think was to guarantee scheduling a minimum of 10 of the 12 highest attendance H&A games (based on historical averages) at the MCG each year. Rumour has it the AFL were opposed to a 80000 capacity stadium at Optus, and that was one of the reasons, so as not to derail their cosy MCG deal

Not sure how that would limit the Burswood to only 60k seats, even if it were 80k only the Derbies would fill it and they’d be the 2 of 12 not at the G.

I don't know wittout research what the attendance of the 12 biggest H&A games is, I assume most are marquee games involving Collingwood anyway. And I also don't know if the rumours are true, but it was rumoured at the time that the AFL was making it known it was worried and was keen for Optus to be no rival to the pre-eminence of the MCG.

We've played Geelong in Round 1 a couple of times from memory, we beat them in 2012 in that absolute thriller at Subiaco Oval, they annihilated us in 2017, there may be some others that I'm not remembering.

It’s a bit silly to try to forecast the difficulty of the draw based on this year. The only constant in the ladder each year is change. Some teams rise and some teams fall. What seems a hard draw now, might actually be a cakewalk next year.

Much better to focus on things like amount of travel and prime time exposure. And based on those, this is one of our better fixtures.

Don't hate any team but gee, I get close with Carlton😡

They always seem to be kissed on the d.ck by an AFL fairy...
What annoys me is that all the media are judging the hardness or otherwise of a teams draw based purely on the 6 double up games. Yes Carlton scored two lower teams (WC, North). Collingwood, Hawks, Ess, Port aren’t that easy. But more importantly what about the rest of the draw - breaks in between games etc.

Carlton also don’t have a single 5 day break

Spoken like someone who has never been there.

Truely, the only people who shit on Adelaide are the ignorant folk who haven't visited.

It's an great place. Better town planning than Perth with the best wine in Australia.

Credit where credit is due. The AFL journos have doen an amazing job pairing the picture with the headline:

The Carlton draw looks like the GROAT - Greatest Rort OAT.
