Committed to this team (for the moment). Mills out meant a restructure. Not too happy having to play 2 rookies in defence so i might end up downgrading Sanders or Baz to improve my backline.

$27,900 in the bank

Mills' late start together with that of Coleman's has made it far more difficult putting our backline together. The silver lining to this is that they represent a couple of great trades in round 6-7. I'm not a fan of starting Holmes due to his round 3 bye and I feel NWM and/or Dale are better options. I realise that emergencies are not important at this stage but there's no way I would even consider Reid. Even if he does play (which has been a rarity) he will be lucky to score more than 40 although last night's 75 makes that look silly. Keep in mind he was on 32 at 3/4 time but got a heap of junk time +6s in the last quarter that won't happen too often. I have serious doubts about Paton being in Sydney's best 23.
Bold move in going with so many mid priced mid fielders in Garcia, O'Driscoll and Tsatas. Tsatas certainly showed last night that he will be a part of Essendon's midfield even when Parish returns. This week will tell us more about the other two. I'm not too concerned with the score they get but more importantly what role they play. Same could be said about Sheldrick.
I originally had Xerri as my starting R1 but when analyzing his first 7-8 games (other than rd 1) he comes up against a number of tough match ups and I'd be surprised if he maintains his starting average over this period hence he will lose quite a few $$.
Have no issue with your forwards although I'm not starting with JHF.

How do I get the badge for "member of top DT league" which was the case last year?

New team. Lock and load the backline. Midfield underpriced premiums and a cheap forward line.

That makes quite a bit of sense actually. I'm just running the one rookie on field in the defense but that may change depending on what St.Kilda do with Travaglia.
I like the Callaghan selection and whether he comes in or not will depend on what he does in opening round. Cerra's inability to stay on the park worries me and he could be an easy swap with B Smith if you've still got money in the bank. If not you could swap Knevitt to Langford. Both have similar scoring potential and both have great js and it would give you some $$.
I've gone more value in the rucks with Briggs and TDK. Briggs has about 5-10 points of upside and TDK picks himself now that Pittonet is out.
Another way you could save some money if needed would be to replace JHF with Sanders. I feel he will be a real breakout this year.
Obviously this week's practice games and opening round will give us some more answers.

I'm really pleased with my latest squad. I don't foresee any changes to this unless the injury curse occurs over the next week OR Sheldrick spuds up on Friday.
The fact that Geelong are no longer playing the round 3 bye has opened up a position for Holmes that I would not have otherwise used. Happy with the backline with only the one rookie and I'm using D8 this year as my captain's loophole non starter. Couldn't find anyone who was likely to make cash at D8 so why not?
Very happy with the midfield. Dawson, Brayshaw and Rozee all have a little bit of upsize. Oliver is a no brainer and I have decided to go with Smith as a mid rather than a forward. I want him in my team and he wasn't able to push his way into the forward line. I then have 3 who are all priced just above that of a rookie but are all capable of averaging 80 instead of a rookie's 50-60.
DeKoning is an obvious selection with Pittonet now out and I believe Briggs has 10 points of value to him. My only concern is will he play this week. Even though Opening round doesn't count, the fact that he would have missed the past 3 weeks would be a concern.
Macrae, Sanders, Daniel and Davidson should be in everyone's side. F1 came down to JHF of Rankine and I have gone with the latter as I believe their scoring will be similar and Rankine is $100K cheaper. Due to his form and more importantly, his role, Garcia now fills one of my forward spots. Too cheap to ignore with his potential scoring ability.
Picture doesn't show it but my flex is Peatling.

As GWS are having a bye in round 2, I'd wait to see what Callahan and Ash score in round 1 rather than start with them. If either have a poor game, you've made the right call. If they have good scores in round 1 you can bring them back in in round 3 and their price will not have gone up.

Hey did you make a league this year? Still open?

settled on this:

DEF - Sheezel(vc), Holmes, Short, Roberts, Perryman, Sinn, [Travaglia, Leake]
MID - Dawson, Oliver, Callaghan, Day, Cumming, O'Driscoll, Tsatas, O'Sullivan, [Hewett, Allan, Camporeale]
RUC - Xerri(c), TDK, [Boyd]
FWD - JHF, Smith, Macrae, Daniel, Hobbs, Garcia, [Kako, Davidson]
FLX - Ashcroft
(3k leftover)

my main focus was to get a majority of players who i feel are underpriced
got at least 1 player from every team except for GCS (i aim to cover every team because that's the way i like it)
picked Travaglia & Allan despite not playing rd1... i think they're way ahead of the other cheap def/mids
spent the $$$ on Xerri because i see him as a permanent captain

What am I missing with Paton outside he's $200k? Did nothing last week.
It's a toss up between him & Leake for a def bench spot. Have Paton at the moment because I assume he has better job security. Has averaged over 50 most years and pushed 60 for a couple at St Kilda. If Bice isn't sub though, may swap to him over both.

My other toss up is between Sam De Koning & Joel Freijah. No idea which way to go. The money saved from SDK can get me Murphy Reid up to Ashcroft, who despite being sub most likely I would still like. Although I have Tsatas to trade after round 2, so can get to Ashcroft or Lalor that way.

Money is tight, only have 11K left over.

Is Bailey Smith "must have"? I don't have JHF and I'm concerned I'm going to get left behind. Best option to get him probably Sheezel to Clark/Holmes and Smith up. Not having Smith could get me left behind also.

To get Sanders up to JHF would have to go Sheezel to Stewart. Bloody Stewart, every year I swear never again, but keep getting sucked in, though I'm not really that keen on this one.
