Thoughts on starting both Peatling and Cumming? With probably one/both having been upgraded by their bye
Finding it hard to fit anyone in that price range in my midfield

Currently running 3 rookies deep which I think will be common (Smith, Draper, Ashcroft and then possibly Lindsay on bench).

I like Oliver and Docherty at M4 and M5, and would look at these two as downgrade options if neither Oliver/Docherty were looking fit.

Doubt I'll start either at this stage. Don't see the upside at Adelaide.
Am the same, maybe Cumming if he starts to get the role and the score opportunities. So much to play out at the Crows yet.

I think there’s an upside that there a lot of points available. If Cumming becomes out HB flank and designated kick in he was accumulate a fair amount of points. I believe Dawson wi play more behind the ball and Laird probably goes back to defence meaning there should be a fair few points available in the midfield.

Yeah I’m thinking that if I went Cumming (or both) I would be running only 2 rookies in the mids. This worked for me last year as well.

I also have Doch and Oliver there at the moment and finding it hard to change them/one of them

Would this mean more than 1 rookie in another position?
I have always liked the idea of a solitary rookie at D6 and F6, never more than that (depending on the year and where the rookie depth is of course).

These seem to contradict each other no?

A lot of teams seem to be able to support multiple HB accumulators

Sinclair, NWM and Bonner last year at Saints
Sheezel, McKercher and Fisher at North
Young and Ryan at Freo
Flanders and Sexton for a little bit last year at Gold Coast

So you may find both Cumming and Laird in defence (and B.Smith as well)

All my setups I have saved only has 1 rookie in the backline and one in the forward line. I’m changing between having 3 in the midfield or 2 with Cumming.
Definitely not liking the idea of more than 1 in D or F.

100% this comment
Smith is definitely not best 22. Hinge probably goes up to a wing.
I’m assuming our backline accumulates will be Laird and Cumming. I suggest Dawson more so floats back but will be 50% midfield as well. Might even go forward at times

Cumming has good upside. 85-90 guy in the past in the right role and he could be the main guy down there for Adelaide, kick ins potentially?
Think it’s a huge watch PS and if he’s playing back rather than wing he seems like good value. I’ve said it from the start he screams 2024 Bonner but probably a lot more effective by foot haha.
Starting Bonner gave me a huge advantage last season - and I think it’s worth the risk especially with the early byes and we can hide behind average scores if it doesnt work out

My 1st draft had neither in the basis that there’s so much value higher end options and quality rookies I just couldn’t see a structure allowing their price range

Now I have both. They are very underpriced and it’s hard to see players above out scoring their price by as much as they and they will hold their own against the rookies

Interesting to see how my own philosophy/structure evolves but I think pre season will dictate it

I can see Peatling going 88-92 with some ceiling scores to accelerate cash, and cumming 85+

Before last season and this season, sure, but now with the early byes and best 18, this gives around two more weeks for one to two rookie accumulations - well, that's my take anyway.

2 rookies for me with a very premium bench though so can still hit the cash gen of the top rookies

Are we saying Hewett is a rookie?

Because I’ve put this together which I’m liking a lot. Can see upside on everyone apart from maybe Sheez, and good potential scoring depth on all lines.

Backline is where I’m least confident. Mills and Short have been guys I’ve steered well clear of for the last few years but no one above them is exciting me either.

Mids very happy. Only question mark is Day or Oliver (don’t really want both Clarry and Trac)

Forward line subject to change based on roles as well, but don’t really want to be paying up for anyone there either

But im liking it as a first draft. A bit riskier than I might usually play with limited ceiling scorers, but I’m not really a fan of many of the top guys when byes are factored in.

I don't see a world where you run any less than 3 mid rooks onfield this season, this year has so many good mid rooks and there's 6 that stand out and i wouldn't want to miss any of the cash gen on the bench either.

But obviously means missing out on 1-2 value mids. I currently don't have Doch or Peatling, but i have to spend my cash somewhere so i have Green, Rozee, Taranto, Oliver and Cumming currently.

If i was to go down to Doch from either Rozee or Taranto its only 200k and i cant see anywhere id want to use it apart from paying up at D1 but i just don't see the value there.

If i went down to Peatling i could use the $300k to upgrade the ruck to Marshall but once again 0 value and could slightly regress depending on if he plays more forward.

Smith is done bar a long injury list.

There is a key strategy in there somewhere. Nailing those best 18's R2,3 & 4 is the second key that needs to be unlocked.

Are there any Melb. fans out there that have any idea if Oliver has his head back in the game?
He came back early and hasn't missed a training session. His knee and hand, which meant he couldn't tackle and effected his ball handling, are 100%.

He's running well and been a standout in match sim.

I wouldn't say he's back to 2021 form or fitness just yet, but he's progressing well and his head space is supposedly really good from all reports.

And Petracca looks amazing. I believe he'll play a lot more midfield in 2025, which was one of his gripes.

Oliver 🔒 for mine at his price.
