We had a perfect opportunity last year in R23 to top that list but it was at Marvel.
But we didn't!.
In the weeks leading-up to this game even the Vic media was kicking-up a stink why this top of the ladder clash had been relegated to docklands. In the end only 38K attended the game. I had an expectation on a jam packed docklands similar to those 2002 games v the Bombers and the Pies.

It didn’t help that Daicos, Hill, De Goey and Murphy were all out for the Pies. If I recall correctly a lot of Pies fans lost a bit of interest in it after that.

That match still would have got a good crowd at the MCG. People resent having to go to Marvel…

Last thing I want is the last four games of the year being against the bottom four teams... need to be tough on the road into finals!
We all expect Eagles, North and Tigers to again struggle.
The problem always is who will be the real crap and good teams out of the middle field.
Always 2 teams drop out of the 8 Melb/Pies 2024, Cats, Tigers and Freo 2023
Also when you get teams in form and injury patches.
First few games Lions where pretty easy to beat this year..

I've seen the first draft of our 2025 fixture and our 12 away games are:

Perth
Adelaide Hills (Gather Round)
Launceston (vs Hawthorn)
Perth
Hobart (vs North)
Canberra (night game in late May)
Adelaide
Alice Springs (vs Melbourne)
Carrara
Adelaide
Ballarat (early August)
Geelong

Gonna be an exciting year 😁

So just one game at the MCG then hey!

Interesting to note that while our draw was ranked equal hardest pre-season, it was rated second easiest after the normal season was finished.

Double-ups turned out to be pretty decent: Suns, Pies, Dees, Saints, Crows, GWS. Only one finalist!

There is obviously when you play a team and how you and they are going at the time. Even on that measure we got the blues at a great time with a lot of injuries, we got the pies both teams at a pretty good time too. I can't be bothered going through the season haha

Also we avoided: Ballarat, Geelong, Launceston, Hobart.

We did cop SA 3 times and WA twice. But there is something about those off broadway venues that doesn't seem to inspire us.

We also had a pretty good travel schedule, the only back to back from memory included a bye.

From the above, i would say it is highly likely we get a HARDER draw this year.

My main hope is to be spared the regional venues, or cop one at worst.

To start the year against fellow final teams (first 2 rounds say) so we don't play teams ready to go after our short pre-season.

With some luck we might get 2 double-ups vs bottom 6 with one as part of our normal draw and the other vs suns.

10 games for the Cats at Kardinia next year apparently.....

Im happy for Geelong to get more home games in Geelong as long as they send all teams there evenly. Ridiculous if they keep refusing to send teams like Collingwood

Back to back travel is of no worry to us, we managed to beat the 1st, 3rd and 4th placed sides on the ladder away in 3 consecutive weeks... albeit the Swans were away as well in the GF.

We are a resilient hard as nails team now.
