Early rounds, use it for cash gen and play high scoring rook playing late in the round that you can't loop.

Mid rounds, use it to help cover zeroes during byes

Late rounds, after you have finished your 22 use it to add best available premium.

Added bonus, if you have a short term injury with no coverage from your bench, you now have the option to cover that position with players from another position.

That is how I will be using the flexibility this year 😉

What happens if he’s a late out?

Its just an extra player, with no emergency, thats all.

Flex is ideal for any early player each week, if they are a late out you can sub with someone else.

Spot on, put the earliest player you can there. Can't cover with an E if there is a late out at Flex.

I think 1) this thread gave me a headache; so many ideas!!

2) I’m thinking it’s best to use flex for a rookie from the line that has the most rookies ie the midfield. Maximise cash gen, potentially minimise rookie roulette. Once upgrade season begins you want your flex to be from the highest scoring line- most likely rucks.

An extra rookie in the midfield vs a gun in flex.

An extra gun in the midfield vs a rookie flex.

Same same.

I can't really figure out whether there's anything clever to do with the Flex spot. Seems to me it's just best 22 of 23 every week, so for starters just put SOMEONE there and drop you're worst score.

Given I imagine the website's goal is to generate as many clicks and logins as possible (for advertising), I'm surprised they didn't implement this in a different way. Ie. Why not give the coach the option of subbing out one completed player's score for one other manually? Could be for someone who has played, or hasn't. Perhaps you can only sub someone out after their game has started but before it's finished? But it would be more "AFL-like" in having to make a conscious decision to sub. And would allow people further interaction with the site and their team over the weekend. Just spitballing.

Only thing to think about is who goes in flex vs who you loop. Won't matter for the first week as everyone will have 31 green dots and won't be looping.

FFS if put Boyd R3 I’m now contemplating a donut in flex for VC loop 🤦‍♂️😂

Yeah can always put Boyd flex and donut R3..
No and No

If your serious about starting a donut

It's D8 or F8 or Kiddy Coleman

Was more about how ****ed up things are at the mo rather than actually doing it (no chance would); but even with early byes enabling a loop, it’s the early non-bye rounds without the traditional ruck loop if start e.g. Boyd and he plays. Can’t remember a season when I’ve not played a ruck VC loop regardless of the early byes

I can't decide between two strategies.

1. Allowing extra rucks. Helpful during the byes and they can score big. But often you have to leave out one of the good options when selecting just the two.

2. Picking a DPP that has mid + def/fwd as you can then interchange with up to 17 players in the 31.

One option has little scope for manoeuvrability at the expense of a highly sought after ruck, while the other maximises flexibility.

Played around with so many different structures revolving around Flex and trying to make it not ruin any other line.

Settled on going 3 playing Rucks and a Ruck Flex.

Rucks
Xerri, Nank : Flynn - bench cash cow
Flex
Bryan - Bombers No 1 Ruck this year.

The Plan will be to later move Xerri to Flex and Upgrade around Bryan and Flynn to someone during midseason byes after they have played.

Cost to team is no $600k Mids and No JHF or Rankine.
Waiting til after R6 to work out targets for forwards.

Defenders only 1 Rookie onfield the rest should be top 10’s. Might need a sideways trade later, wait and see.

Will Rotate any of the 4 rucks through flex depending on who they are up against.
Also prepping for injuries.

Saw all the cookie cutter teams and they will probably outscore mine.

Just trying something different for fun.

The big choice I see early in the year with flex is who to loop vs who to play in flex.
buttox if you are taking on the early bye players like I am to have a team I want post early byes and better spread out for midseason byes.
Think I have 15 of my 31 have a R2-R5 bye most is R5 with 8 so will just scrape together 23 players.
So Flex will be best available, why I have done this below.

Flex Plan

I think I have worked out a way to get Mids, Rucks and Fwds as possible Flex spots.

My Ruckline is Xerri, Jackson(R/F) bench Flynn.

Flex is Nick Bryan (R) ESS

And Kako fwd bench (F/M)

This opens up all 3 lines to Flex.

The idea of Bryan and Flynn is I am treating them as cash generators, til they aren’t.

Jackson could end up being top 6 FWD. Take the bet Shrek keeps getting injured and misses 60% of season.

Also starting midfield with two guys who could get DPP in FOS and Petracca.

Doing this over starting JHF and Rankine and those two players costing a stronger Defender line with few rookies emerging yet.

So I have completed the full circle and starting a ruck as my Flex.

Ok Close Board now.

Apologies for asking this because I'm sure it's been covered but I just can't find the specific answer to the question that is keeping me up at night- Does Flex position cover an on-field 0 'score'? I know it replaces lowest score out of playing 22 so I wasn't sure if that included a player that does not play but is on field due to not having emg / bench cover...

Again, apologies... but I would appreciate an answer! Cheers

As far as I get it.

If a player plays and gets a 0SC score it counts.

If a player doesn’t play, it is first replaced by selected emergency.

Then finally out of those 22 players if the Flex score is higher it then comes into play to replace the lowest onfield calculated score including emergencies.

Bye rounds it goes down to best 18 scores, if flex is higher than any of those, in he comes.

I could be wrong though as it is new to me too.

Haven't seen it confirmed but would expect it is treated the same as best 18 bye rounds last yr, just 1 dropping off rather than 4 and happening every week and emerg scores did count as part of the best 18 covering non playing zeros.

Obvs a zero in flex is a straight donut with no emerg cover

OK Crew I think I have worked out a way to have a starting side where any player from any position can become a FLEX!!!

Starting with Rucks as that's they key.

R1 Xerri or Gawn
R2 L.Jackson
R3 M.Flynn - (I know pretty expensive to have sitting on the bench, but I am hoping he makes cash to upgrade later)

Now the risk.

FLEX N.Bryan ESS Ruck

The next key to open up any position change is this

THE KEYS
F7 Kako M/F
F8 Paton D/F

So for any round I can have R1 - Xerri/Gawn; R2 - Any Combo of Jackson/Flynn/Bryan; R3 - Bryan/Flynn

Using "THE KEYS" I can move Jackson to Flex then swap with one of "THE KEYS" into FLEX moving Jackson to a starting FWD.

Then I can swap any Mid/Def depending on which "KEY" positional change I need to cover.

I think I will call this move "The Great Escape" !!!!!

After Last year Using at least 8 Trades on Rucks I wanted to find a way to have more than extra cover for this position.

Upgrade Cover plan will be if Draper or another player gets named R/F I will definitely have them in my sights for an upgrade target - Even R3......
