Also wonder if Josh McCown gets a look in, been talked up a fair bit since retiring, there was a point in time he was going to be given the Texans HC'ing job before the NFL stepped in. Presumedly gets some credit for the work he did with Darnold this year as QBs coach.

Talk about a division of good coaches.

More evidence that divisions suck, or at least divisions of four teams suck. I hope the NFL eventually expands to 36 teams and either does away with divisions altogether (a team just plays the other 17 in their conference once) or if they must have divisions, return to three divisions per conference again (with six teams each, a team plays their own division twice for ten games, another division once for another six, then one against a special rival or something).

Without divisions you won't play teams twice a year which helps build rivalries. Nfl doesn't want that to go away it wants its cowboys vs eagles twice a year, gb vs vikings, ravens vs steelers etc.

And honestly why would nfl as a league want to expand.
Their isnt the talent for 4 more teams especially at certain positions like qb.
Plus honestly can't see owners wanting to expand and then have to share their tv revenue with 4 more teams. For any expansion would need 24 owner votes out of 32 to expand.

Lol okay enjoy stacked divisions and shit divisions then I guess. Can't wait for the next 2010 Seattle Seahawks to emerge!
Same? It's one of the great things about the playoffs

Bizarre take from you

Okay, I don't care.

And so I offered the alternative suggestion of three division of six per conference with 36 teams overall.

Since when have the NFL turned down opportunities for making more money?

It depends entirely on where those teams are and how much extra revenue they bring in. Four teams in Europe would have the potential to massively grow tge television audience.

Bobby Slowik made a scapegoat for something that in my opinion really wasn't his fault. Head coach and GM screwed him.

When Texans hire Bobby Slowik he installs his scheme from SF that relies on a fullback to help out with blocking in run game and pass game.
The Offense has a pretty good year in 2023.

So what do they do in 2024
Texans get rid of fullback and trade for a 3rd WR that OC didn't really want. Thus forcing a scheme change to alot of 3 wr sets.
Then they spend all their money to improve an already good defense in free agency only grabbing a backup tackle and 4th string rb instead of improving their Oline. Draft is same as free agency.
Then 2 of 3 starting WRs get hurt

Texans fire Bobby Slowik

You don’t care about rivalries ? Crazy

I don’t mind that cause keeps divisions and rivalries games.

What extra revenue ?
Tv deal is locked into 2033 so where is this extra revenue coming from ?
Unless the buy in for a new team can make up for revenue that each team would lose each year by sharing their tv money/merchandising rights is a non starter to that’s expired.

Your right thou if they want to move into Europe full time need a full division with of teams atleast 4 to cut down on travel they would need to do. Jacksonville could candidate to relocate to London.

Without divisions the NFL risks losing more money, because it becomes a plastic league no rivalries lose huge TV market games that are division games. killing divisions/conferences and regional rivals is hurting the CFB fans.

and Division games are some of the highest ticket prices in the league.

Six team divisions? Bad idea. That would make 10 division games a year for each team up from 6. Then if you play 4 from other confirm division that only leaves 3 games from other divs. Boring

They are moving to 18 games as soon as they can. but might not be till 31 when the CBA expires.

Re:divisions....

What would work, math-wise, would be divisions of 5 in an 18 game season.

Play 8 div games, then two other divisions in their entirety once each (5 and 5) = 10

8 + 10 = 18

But no bye weeks. You'd have to add say two bye weeks (player safety) and make it a 20 week NFL season

Happy for Pete that he gets a another opportunity to be a head coach, think he will do well over at the Raiders.
3 year contract at 73

It will be interesting to see if Shottenheimer gets a run with him or someone else

It feels ( to me ) to be a first year repair and assess - 2nd year shared coaching and 3rd year hand over most duties

But it is Pete I work alone Carroll so who knows
