The boys he played with are all the Mitcham players. Might be a bit late this year, but i think the signing of Stephenson would have sent a shiver down the spine of some senior Mitcham people. They know whats coming.
2026 is going to be looking dangerous for Mitcham fc .

Talk already Nick Hallo Jessie Smyth want to play with Stevenson in 2025 down at Ferntree gully .

You would be kicking yourself if you were one of the players that jumped ship early down at Ftg 😆

Who knows where Stevo sits with his football in 12 months time, it would be fair to assume there will be some decent $$$ on offer out there for him if he wants to go down that route.

Lot of water to go under the bridge. Bit early to predict a whole bunch of Mitcham Premier players will be heading off to D3 FTG in twelve months’ time.

Will Stephenson still be there? The guys has just walked out on an AFL contract, hard to imagine he’s the most stable type.

Would FTG be in a position to be able to pay these blokes?

Most of the Mitcham boys it’s their home club. You would think they would go back to win some more flags if Stevenson is on board in the coming years !

Hopefully Ftg can get their act together with the professionalism side of things .

Always a bit hard to tell what is going on.

Look to have lost

Winter (former captain) Norwood
Hutchinson - Norwood
Harvey - Norwood
Lever - Norwood
Morris (captain) Old Yarra
Bendrups (captain) Croydon North

Winter’s brother is at Norwood so looks to have taken a few with him.
Another has moved to the Northern Football League - Jaidyn Johns has gone to Heidelberg West Football Club.

This has having a year in recess all over it unfortunately. They've done well to battle on up to this point over the last 5 years of being at the bottom. Anyone got ashwoods presidents number? Might need them now.

Could very easily go the other way with Stephenson joining his mates at Mitcham if FTG aren't careful though.

Anybody know the reason behind the mass exodus, is Frank Salantiri still coaching?

It’s not a solution though. What happens when Forest Hill fall over (their juniors have folded).

What happens when Berwick and Beacy inevitably want to join the SFNL.

They need to can this expansion shit and put their efforts into the existing clubs.

They'll also be taking at least 1 or 2 clubs from the Outer East league too in the next couple of years I'd imagine.

It is early but that particular group of mates that played together and won flags together are very tight. Many of the players didn't want to leave FTG but their mates were at Mitcham. They also have a great bond with their former coach.

Apparently Stephenson is playing for nothing in 2025 when considering hes getting 500K off North Melbourne it sounds probable. But after this season things may change.

I don't think there would be anyone on big coin at FTG now so plenty of cash to spread around. McComb, De Ieso, Kennedy, Flannery have all gone. The Mitcham guys would need to get paid but we aren't talking about a 100 goal forward or a 205cm ruck. Some are b&f winners at Mitcham so will need some reward but i think the attraction to come together will out way the cash.

Probably Winterton is the only road block. I'm sure some players must have a strong bond with him after winning multiple flags. If he was to depart at the end of 2025 it would be open slather. Maybe FTG should target him.

If you understood why those early players went, you would be very surprised if they changed their mind.

I saw in the u19 post they made it had his number with (coach) next to it.

If it happens that'll be two clubs he's been in charge of that have fallen over. Manningham or whats left of it are thriving with Old Yarra, went all the way to the big dance in 2023 to lose by a goal, straight back down after a tough year, looking to compete again.

Is he actually getting his 500k salary? It wasn't a medical retirement, went on his own terms, Wouldnt have thought he'd be eligible to get it for pulling the pin himself.

I'm only gong by media reports a week or so ago that said the club and him had come to an agreement and he would be paid. I agree its strange that in football you can break a contract and still get paid.

This was on a channel 9 article "Jaidyn Stephenson is hanging up the boots after seven years in the AFL, aged 25.

Stephenson confirmed reports that he had "lost passion for the game" in recent years as his primary reasoning for retirement.

The North Melbourne forward is still signed on for 2025 but is reported to have gained permission to be paid out for the remaining year of his contract with the club.
