VFL is one thing but if a skilled player was scrapped from NAB League for athletic reasons, you’d hate to see it. Surely at underage level you stick with talented kids and give them the chance to develop.
It is a strange viewpoint isn't it. You can always train someone to be a lot fitter, but it's extremely difficult, to improve a person's ability to be a more talented football player.

With the dissolving of the development/reserves at VFL years ago a lot of slower developing kids get missed. Which is sad for many of the aspiring players who want to push to higher levels of footy.

It works both ways.
Some guys just like the physical capability to reach elite levels of fitness and lack natural talents when it comes to speed, agility etc. Aaron Francis a good example - had 7 or 8 AFL pre-seasons and still doesn’t have an AFL level tank.
NAB league is about the kids most likely to be able to become AFL players & physical attributes are a big part of that.

It’s not always about the fitness. Plenty of players that are built like Tarzan and play like Jane, get a crack at AFL and drop back to lower levels. They get exposed at local football even more.

Sad thing is if he played EFL 6th Div he’s a walk up start.

Essendon VFL has just recruited an old school footballer, kid by the the Leedham, going to be fun to watch

Norwood in big trouble. Lost some good players that they couldn't afford to lose. Beacy would have to be up there with the favourites for div 1. Having a big ruck to tap to a quality midfield will be huge for them

Even those Norwood players who had been there a while are largely imports. Theyre paying the price for stacking the list with imports and not building from within. These guys will never really have loyalty to the place.

Perhaps they will say it was worth it and they’ll now just return to a more suitable level as a club.

But by god… the money they must’ve spent.

Long term, the only way you’ll really be able to keep players is via loyalty and that means building from your juniors

Well said, only way to keep players is loyalty and that means building from your juniors, WHILE fighting off the wolves of cashed up clubs.

With the woodsmen the Hunter becomes the hunted right?

Getting back guys like lockie dickson, sam blease, matt scott, other former juniors who have played vfl/afl made sense but usually when they come back their bodies are cooked. And won't lose out on any future earnings by hanging around for less coin.

Norwood won't be the last club to fall from grace like this!
