Imo way to much match simulation at training causing to many injuries, it’s happening at all clubs, to many players getting injured. Not sure who started this trend but it’s no good for the players bodies.
I think it's more to do with the epic amount of holidays they get now. Clubs are tying to fit too much into too little time.

Sam and Kane talked about that this week, they broke it done to below

12 weeks off at season end, train 4 weeks then have another 3 weeks off for Christmas and New Years. Clubs are only allowed to have 4 contact days at club during this time, and all clubs must give them at least 1 extra long weekend before the start of the season. Most clubs don't get all the players for the whole week, as players also have to attend AFL events as well

I like the 3 weeks off over Christmas for everyone at the clubs, but for what they are paid, I don't understand how they can't do 5 days a week. Most Olympic athletes train every day and then go to work to get paid

How much time do they actually do? Weights? Planning?

This is bang on. How can you possibly be ready to compete in such a physical and demanding game with essentially 2 sessions a week and a soccer game on the weekend… IN PRE-SEASON!

I understand the AFLPA have set limits but that’s half the issue, they want to do less for more. We will continue to see this happening as time goes on. It’s embarrassing. We have essentially 4 weeks less training than the top clubs and it’s shown over the last 10 years! I don’t want to hear “blokes do their own work” because there is absolutely no world it’s near the intensity of a proper session, mind you they don’t even have to report it back to the club if they don’t want?

How is this true? All clubs train for the maximum period allowed by the agreement agreed by the AFLPA and the AFL.

Is the 4x 25 minute quarter match sim on Wednesday???

Patch did say Thursday. The Wednesday session was a bit random. Probably getting ready for soccer...

When ? Tonight ?
Actually, I checked the science and I found that technically, due to the evidence being well and truly accepted that the universe is actually expanding, the reality is that the sky is rising. At least, the part of the sky that exists outside of plant Earth's atmosphere. Like the stars and stuff.

But soccer. I blame soccer for everything bad that happens in the world. Well, soccer and organised religion.

What's this sky outside the Earth's atmosphere nonsense? Don't you mean the firmament? As for soccer, that's just part of the round earth conspiracy. They shaped their fake ball to match their fake science.

It's 4 days contact, including weights and planning, leadership etc. They have programs to do out of that, but the clubs are not really allowed to monitor it

It is what it is. All clubs are the same. I guess it comes down to the individual what they want to do out side of that to get the best out of themselves.

The problem Olympic athletes have is that it’s an event that the majority couldn’t give a rats arse about until it actually happens once every 4 years. If that’s the path they choose….

The clubs that don't make the finals are only allowed to come back 1 week before the clubs who played in the GF. So the GF teams get 4 weeks of training extra
The majority of players are in maintenance mode once the season starts, where you're doing as much as possible to maintain physical gains (as opposed to achieving more). By the time finals come around you're not going to be finding blokes challenging their personal bests on the training track or gym. You could argue that the extra games themselves are of benefit though I suppose.

Are there too many players getting injured? Is it more than normal?

Not sure it actually is. Look at team list 30 years go. There was multiple players out injured every week. It’s a ballistic game, injuries happen.

It’s like saying umpiring is worse now. It’s been getting criticised since the game began,

Idk the saints got 6 or 7 injuries Monday. It does feel like a lot more than most years are happening right now. Our injury list seems decent compared to other clubs. Could just be coincidence ofc.
