I feel Palpatine is your Greg Williams style centreman.

Reasoning: some of the prequels acting was pure trash except when he was in a scene and basically holding on the ball and directing his teammates where to run.

Even Hayden Christian looked vaguely like an actor when Palpatine was chipping 20 metre bullets to him.

Surely BB8 gets a run in the forward pocket over JHutt, Hutt can’t even get off the ground, or if you’re going for a third tall it’d have to be K-2SO.

I was going to start defending all of my positionings, but I think I'll just quit as Chairman of Selectors. Gaso's original points about Star Wars are clearly 100% true - as if we didn't already know that!

I'm halfway through Skeleton Crew though, and I think Neel is putting pressure on J. Hutt for that forward pocket role.

I'm very glad that a lifetime of Star Wars nerd-dom has finally come to fruition.

First things first, Davey - EXCELLENT squad. You were the first cab off the rank and you did it with style.

But I have strong feelings about this so I'm going to go line through line and give you my personal Star Wars best 22;


B: Ezra Bridger - Mace Windu - Din Djarrin

What do you look for in the backline of your defense? You want strength. You want versatility. You want calm heads under pressure. And you need a little x-factor too. That's what you get with a unit led by Mace Windu at FB. As a unit, this is a rock-solid defensive wall

HB: Darth Maul - Qui-Gon Jinn - Luke Skywalker

Out of the half-back line I want a unit that is versatile, that knows how to stop people, but also knows when to rebound and go on the attack. All three of Maul, Qui-Gon, and Luke have rebounded from signficant setbacks and finished strong. I mean, for Darth Maul... what's bigger than rebounding back from the dead!

C: Han Solo - Yoda - Boba Fett

I want speed on my wings, and who is faster than the guy who did the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs?! And on the opposite side of the field, how about the only guy to catch that first guy! And in the centre, I want veteran leadership, wisdom, and undeniably elite talent. Yoda is my anchor.

HF: Poe Dameron - Chewbacca - Kit Fisto

At CHF you've got the absolute definition of a "tall marking target" in Chewbacca. Good luck to any CHBs who want to beat him 1-on-1. On the flanks you've got two players who know how to get out of slippery situations and keep moving forward, and that's the attributes I want in my HFFs.

F: Ahsoka Tano - Anakin Skywalker - Rey

The absolute best Full Forwards in AFL history have always been me-first divas with undeniable talent. Say hello to Anakin Skywalker! And at his side you've got his best sidekick in Ahsoka Tano, whose tenacity and talent are undeniable and who works incredibly well in support of Anakin. In the other forward pocket I've got Rey who is as raw a prospect as we've ever seen, but who has x-factor and who just seems to make good things happen when you get her involved.

Foll: Darth Vader - Obi-Wan Kenobi (C)- Lando Calrissian

At 2.03 meters tall, give me the Nubian god for my ruck. Darth Vader isn't going to be out-muscled by any opposition rucks, and say what you will about the Dark Side of the force but those mother****ers know how to win and give first use of the ball to their team. My Captain is my absolute favourite character and the man I have tattooed on my arm, Obi-Wan Kenobi. He's cool, calm, collected, and a veteran leader who knows how to inspire those around him. He's gone to the big dance multiple times and emerged victorious every single time. Finally, I ummed-and-ahhed about who else should get the starting midfielder role, and I ended up going with Lando. The dude just has 'it'.

INT: Kylo Ren - Princess Leia - Sabine Wren - Padme Amidala

A solid mix of talent, skill, and prowess coming off the bench, with multiple positional versatility at play.
