Letā€™s not wash through any optimism at all guys!

Best to just keep our heads down until these turnips deliver because we cannot bear to believe that there may be some improvement around the youngest group in the comp benefiting from cumulative pre-seasons.

Iā€™m so grateful that we have so many on here that keep our expectations realistic and temper any potential joy some might get from observing development.

My return to pessimism feels much better than looking for improvement.

I appreciate you guys delivering doses of harsh reality and waking us up to the folly of excitement around something that is a past time we are invested in.
Not at all, I'm the first dickhead telling everyone every year how much we're going to improve and always fooled by the training and imtra club write ups! This season will be no different, I'm just waiting for the new year.

Lucky we beat Gold Coast in that last game ā€¦ šŸ˜
Dead set - we might look back in 10 years and think we were blessed, of course, that's assuming the AFL would have shafted us on McKay and we couldn't have got both. A fair assumption based on history IMO.

Well we would have selected him anyway. The GC result is more a sliding doors between Reid and McKercher and McKercher and Duursma. So far itā€™s pretty safe to say Reid is ahead of Duursma, but weā€™ll see how next year pans out!

That assumes that the AFL wouldn't game the system if we finished last. Not a safe assumption IMO.

Looks like weā€™ve picked up Nathaniel Sulzberger for our VFL. Great pick up as a young mid.

Looks as though Benny Hopkins is back too.

Love those additions.

Gathered from my viewing of the photos

Thatā€™s an astute pick up, if thatā€™s the case. Iā€™d argue he was probably the most unlucky of all draftees not to get a gig.

Hopkins as well, he had some awesome games for the stingrays last year.

They are bound to follow their own formula otherwise what integrity is left? In any case there isnā€™t that much difference between 1 and 2 and 2 and 3 so not that much incentive to game it. First three to four picks in any draft is like gold dust.

Sweet summer child. They have zero integrity.

Thereā€™s space there in that VFL midfield - no reason he canā€™t do the same as Cooper Lord and get himself drafted. Has the body and fitness to make an impact at VFL right away.

Will be interested to see how he tracks vs Urquhart in the VFL.

The Waynes are in contention and there are only 3 of them that really stick out.

Carey, Schwass, Schimma.

Given their top end they would probably be hard to beat.
Surprised Luffy didn't work that into an algo and draft Wayne from St Albans....based on back testing, statistically anyone named Wayne could have got a look in.

WS and me in a photo holding up that Gold Cup

$20 well spent and now its priceless
Nice me too! Might have been the Wednesday after the big dance from rough memory,,,,,a few mates and I had lunch at the club and waiting for one of the players to rock up for photos,,,,,remember Schwatter arriving in an old pair of track pants and t shirt, clearly a bit worse for wear but seemed to genuinely enjoy holding the cup and posing for photos with all the fans, like it belonged to all of us.

We should sticky an alternate training report for those that prefer...

"Club's ****ed, players are ****ed, everything's ****ed, always has been, always will be, why are we even bothering..."

Goater doing alot of running today. Not full throttle, but stepping it up.

Him, W Dawson and Comben (plus a few others) doing some drills away from the main group. None looking particularly hampered. Surprised by Dawson. Shoulder op wasn't that long ago, but you wouldn't know anything was wrong.

McKercher's a machine.

O'Sullivan is not much to look at, but there were a few 'wow' moments with his evasion and acceleration.

Goad is looking like a different human being compared to last year.

Daniel's foot skills are a different level.

Goad was getting repeatedly out-positioned by Pink in training drills last year. Let's hope he starts learning how to use that frame and reach of his.

Can be our pre-season training for the game day threads!!

A lot further North of Melbourne....on the Lions list and one of 13 kids! Wispa, Joc, Shadeau, Wynta, Jasper, Forest, Jed, Zac, Brittany, Whilloe, Carrissa, James and Brendan.
Parents get to Carrissa and concede they're out of ideas?

Goad was fresh out of SANFL U18ā€™s. Pink was a legit SANFL senior footballer. To be expected.

There's a 'formula' in the same way the MRO grades for suspensions based on a formula. It's there to give the appearance of 'fairness' but in reality has enough mystery subjective levers that can be pulled to engineer whatever outcome the AFL want.

The ā€˜reverse engineerā€™ lever.

Decide what outcome you want, then manipulate the workings.

Sheezel being one out of the box has let this kid squeeze under the radar a bit. He is an absolute weapon.
Unleashed on a wing, he will be doing those 60 metre run then kicks we saw against the suns.

But expect running goals too. I canā€™t think of the last player who had his combo of fearless running, genuine explosiveness, smarts and lethal kicking over 40ā€¦Boomer maybe?
