Make no mistake, whichever season we are talking about - and whatever position we are talking about - this is what will make him or break him. You cannot be successful playing top level AFL (hell, even VFL), by "reaching in", as such. That's what Jacob Edwards did time & time again, and also what Goad did last season in the VFL. And no-one should think that it's an easy problem to resolve, as it's instinctual. You can tell your mind to position yourself closest to the ball hundreds of times, but if the body doesn't react, then it looks like the photo below. And if this occurs in a key forward (or back) post, then it's even worse.

Hopefully, his increased muscle/weight will give him more confidence to get his mind there eventually, because there's so much potential there with Taylor if the mental side of things can beà worked out.

Talk about drawing a long bow and reaching a conclusion based on nothing. Reaching in.

However, I can’t say I’ve ever seen so much positivity during and post training or match sim. There’s a sniff of something in the air and I don’t think it’s bullshit for a change… could be though.

Regardless, it is a vastly better experience coming to Big Footy and sharing in all this positivity and optimism. Finals this year might well be a reach, but as happened in 1973, the journey begins with a few steps.

We could really use a gun contested mark around the ground. That speciality alone could get Maley a game, in my opinion. As long as he can make a simple disposal after clunking it.

From what I saw in the 2s last year, Maley is a neat field kick; set shots not so much
