Who wasn’t training?
I didn't see CCJ and BG was off to the side on a tshirt as opposed to training guernsey.

Surprisingly light turnout of spectators given the PH.

Nothing much else to add really. Match sim was specifically around stoppage work. Then a forward press drill.

Finished off with a pretty gruelling running session.

(1) Not relevant to this convo.
(2) Having a light sesh is absolutely sport science.
(3) They're there to get together and have a light run around.
(4) I can imagine that, and so can every other sport in the world where they manage loads like this.
(5) Doesn't matter how much money you pump into recovery, unless you're pumping gear there's limits to what the body can do.
(6) Post match recovery is inflammation management to get them pain free, which hinders muscle protein synthesis.
(7) Yes, pre season is when you put in the quality work, not work for the sake of it that makes you slower.
Time will tell. I can’t see how we are getting a competitive advantage or improving enough to compete with what I saw. Quality is important so long as we actually do enough work. Round 1 we will see, but if history is anything to go off, we will get found out early.

Urquart was playing mid and Luke Parker was manning him. Parker was really contesting, holding him between ballups , scragging etc

Daniel was involved a lot in link up play. Must be a top runner. Found space to just continually make himself available. When his team looked like turning the ball over he would either be free for an easy ball or divide attention of the opposition to give the ball carrier time and space.

Genuine question, how many sessions a week do other clubs train in preseason?

Every club runs the same number of training sessions. Which is the maximum allowed under the enterprise agreement negotiated by the AFLPA.

I didn’t see River Steven’s. But he very well could have been there. I reckon Goad and Matlock may have been the only players who might not have done the whole session other than CJ. Everyone else was there.
Yep goad spent a fair while standing and watching today. Hope he's ok

I’m sure you’re all sick of me but new photos from this morning just dropped. 📸👇🏼

Oh Maddie, that couldn't be further from the truth, you have a talent, a special talent that is being utilised in the way it was meant to be, your love for the club is evident and your amazing photo's and insight is an absolute delight, keep doing what your doing and God bless. :)

Understand what you’re all saying, but local EDFL clubs are training 2 times a week and doing their own Saturday sessions while blokes have full time jobs and still hit the gym?

We’re talking about elite AFL footballers and a team who hasn’t run out a full game since 2015 and we’re worried about overloading? I think that’s exactly what we need, I can’t imagine how 3 big sessions a week is not the baseline, they have 4 other days to hit the gym or do skills or anything else?

We all work 5 days a week and only get 4 weeks off? Why do we give so much leniency to these blokes when they’re paid bucket loads, get more leave than most professions and for whatever reason aren’t digging in for big preseasons (which is not on the players, they do what they’re told). It hurts that the clubs never seems to improve and seeing sessions like I did on Saturday is a reflection of where we are at. To top it off it’s even worse when the only blokes who seemed to really care were Maley and Toby Pink, couldn’t hear anyone else. We need to demand excellence, get some big wins and build moment. From what I’ve seen we are a LONG way off. I hope I’m wrong.
Be pleased to see your qualifications in exercise physiology given you purport to have such a great knowledge of the subject ? This whining because you didn’t get to see what you wanted is classic self-centric behaviour which has now morphed into a diatribe with no basis in fact. And all because you didn’t call the club to find out that’s what happens on Saturdays. From what you have seen isn’t much it appears 🙄.

easy, i’ll call clarko and co to ask what’s happening this week at training and get the run down of all the drills and send across so we can all be informed 👍

The observation was this it was a ridiculously light session where most blokes did nothing. It seemed strange that in the middle of pre-season we would be doing that given our recent history. Don’t reckon a degree is noted for that observation. You’d imagine that a young and hungry group as reported all season would be working harder given how far behind the other clubs we are. We’ll see how it’s worked in round 1 won’t we 👍

Ah yeah. I saw Brayden George run out but didn’t notice him later.

I think they all worked hard and were focussed on trying to get to the end of the session due to the oncoming heat.

Not a lot of whooping and hollering etc. but something must have happened at the start of the session - maybe a few of the boys being reintroduced into main training group

BGZ looks a good size now.

Thanks mate - great response!
Go watch training on Wednesday.
They will do a good 2.5 hours of pretty intense training & a hell of a lot of running.
Probably an hour of match sim too.
Last week the match sim was about 90% intensity of a AFL game. They were cracking in pretty hard.
Most EDFL players would be tapping out well before the end of the session.

Mate I do not disagree that the two main sessions we do a big sessions. My whole point has been that the Saturday sessions seem ridiculous and it was concerning

I was disappointed we only done 2 proper sessions a week too when I found out Saturdays was a light run around. I thought it would be more at this time of year, but I know nothing about sports science, so I will defer to the experts.
I’m sure all other clubs are doing the same.

If you call the club they will tell you if it is a light session or a full session. Trying to justify your hissy fit just makes it worse. Stop digging.

River was there. Getting a lot of love from the boys for his work in the press drill.

Yeah mate, I feel the same. It’s okay we can defer to our man Bernie below, he can let us know what the drills will be in advance. Because I’m sure the customer service guys would be well across the drills and intensity of the sessions

Yeah it’s shocking isn’t it, especially when we’re such a good team and have had a few really good seasons. Everyone complaining in the last 10 years has been so wrong with our amazing on field performances
Cringe
