Training 2025 Pre-Season Thread

Good to see my boi Day out for a training session.
I missed this article from 3 days ago others may have also.
Sam Day gets lots of credit for coming back time after time when others may have given the game away.
...............................................

If Sam Day’s most recent outing at AFL level is any sort of pointer the latest Lions signing could be a real surprise packet.
And although they copped a two-point loss to the eventual wooden-spooners which effectively torpedoed their finals hopes Day had a career-best six contested marks and a career-best five marks inside forward 50 – despite playing only 54% game time.
....................................

But it all went horribly wrong on 19 February 2017 in a pre-season game against Brisbane at Broadbeach, when he hyper-extended his leg and badly dislocated his hip.
The shattered 24-year-old didn’t walk for 50 days until 10 April. It was 153 days until he ran again on 22 July. And 398 days and a change of coach before he played his 99th AFL game on 24 March 2018 in Stuart Dew’s first game at the helm.
...................................
Day will be closer to 32 than 31 by the start of the 2025 season in March, and in line to be the seventh player to debut in Brisbane colors beyond 30 after Luke Hodge, Matt Rendell and Ben Hudson (33), Grant Birchall (32), Jack Gunston (31) and Geoff Raines (30).

Not a criticism of our guys as basically every club has veterans show up early... but controversially I find it so lame to get excited about it. How many times have reporters breathlessly covered essendon players showing up a week early?

Stop undercutting the CBA provisions for leave you idiots!

Lol, easy Tom, it's not like they're digging ditches for a living. Compare the work / life balance these guys get compared to players in the 70's & 80's.

It’s easier to pick a Blucher article than a Dr. Seuss book.

We're out to prove the haters blueiris wrong

Bye, bye Lachie. At least you got one premiership medal.

If you have won a Brownlow you get 1 warning per Brownlow won, those are the rules everyone knows that. So Lachie is on notice.

The other exception is if you have a 200 page mainboard thread dedicated to you, in which case you’re a lion for life regardless of whether you train or not.

His other warning was used up by playing for the Dockers for all those years. Should have come straight to us.

Hope the door hits him on the way out.

And all the going back West stuff that he stirred up just as we were getting a bit of team spirit going. Undeservedly winning a second Brownlow and keeping our guys up late in the week before the 2023 GF. Then selfishly playing on injured this year keeping younger players out of the team when the right thing to do would've been to get his body right.

Lucky for him we still managed to get over the line for a flag.

He's got a lot to answer for does Lachie.

I suppose Fagan being so soft and all will just let him waltz back in on big money as if nothing's happened.

The last I Checked Neale broke he's foot winning a Grand Final for the Lions so give the guy some slack

No excuse. Sam day was training the house down day 1. If his foot is sore laps can be done in this

Lachie Neale, if only he gave his all for the club. 110% just isn’t good enough when you don’t come back to training early. Lucky he’s contracted really
His lack of commitment and buy-in to "team first" doctrine is glaring. Cut our loss now.

Over analysing and drawing conclusions from pre season photos is peak Bigfooty but Luke Beecken looks considerably more toned and fit compared with when he arrived. Appears to have put the work in over the off season to return in top shape. Really liked what I saw from him last year. Going to be near impossible to break into the seniors if the side is fully fit next year but I’d be surprised if he doesn’t make his debut at some point.

Yes it will be tough, but players might get into poor form like McKenna did at times last season. And age could catch up with Zorks at any point. I know Fages likes to give players multiple chances to stick around in the seniors, but hopefully players like Beecken breathing down their necks for a spot will get the best out of our regular best 22.

So if we are going to mount a successful premiership defence we are going to have to sacrifice at least another five players to the ACL alter. We lost in 2023 because we only did one and not five.

Who we taking out to satiate the footy gods?
I think that's why Joe retired, to ensure he wasn't one of the sacrificial ACLs.

Joe retiring is worth 5 ACLs. It is a beautiful tragedy, but he sacrificed himself for the greater good.
