I know I will probably get shot down, but I wonder with AhChee out of contract this year that we may look at getting some trade value for him?
We are fairly well stocked in that area of the ground.
And he may get some pretty decent offers this year if his form keeps up and we may not be able to match what others can offer.

Starc is probably out of our control. He either wants to stay or not. I wouldn't throw the world at him but obviously he's a very good player ,replaceable if WC throw the kitchen sink at him but it would hurt us just the same. Maybe he loves it here and has no intention of leaving.

As far as Cal goes the penny hasn't dropped for most of our supporters.

I don't care what Cal gets offered ( within reason ) there's no hope of him opting to leave the Lions.

Cornes was on to it about Round 14 when he called him the most underpaid player in the AFL. I don't think he'd be making any unreasonable demands.

No demands I am sure.
But the offers will come especially if his Finals form continues.

For sure. Charlie's 31 , Linc's 31. Cal's the improve. I can think of others that I'd rather lose if we have to let players go.

bailey could contribute at an all australian squad level playing a role akin to miers / dylan moore where he starts on a flank and rolls up. quick enough to beat opponents back to goals, dangerous inside 50, good tank to cover ground, has enough midfield craft to contribute at a stoppage and is damaging with his field kicking (see geelong final). i dont think the coaches would consider him out of the 22.

unfortunately we probably have 28~ players we are trying to squeeze into 22 this year. i would back the guys who played in the premiership side to hold their spots for round 0 and put the pressure on the players outside to push past them. im assuming day will get first crack at daniher's spot.

coleman, l ashcroft, doedee, mckenna, gardiner, mccarthy and to a lesser extent brain, marshall, beecken and reville would all be getting a game at many of the clubs in the league. the battle for spots will be harsh but as we saw last year, injuries will likely open opportunity for all these guys at some point.

I give Bailey a bit of rope. IMO his season was partly derailed by injury, partly confidence and partly learning and contributing in new ways which aren’t necessary to his absolute strengths. See how he goes in 25.

Maybe Rayner plays cbas and deep forward in 25 without Joe and Bailey takes the linking role.

Fish must be drunk on hot cross buns; seriously squeezing Jaspa out, a specialist wingman one of our better finals series players over someone who has never played an AFL game or any other ins is seriously laughable.

And then Doedee over Lester; rightio, one has barely put a foot wrong in 12 months and played in a GF and the other has barely got on the park in two years and is the preferred option.

Is Fletcher a genuine wing, or is that because we needed that position filled?

I think it's a real possibility that Fletcher is/gets overlooked because of the ashcroft's hype (will has earnt his hype, Levi tbd). Fletcher is definately as important for our long term success. Coach will be earning his money keeping all these young ones egos in check.

100% agree. Also stats don't flatter wingmen so reckon Jaspa does a lot of stuff that doesn't get measured but the coaches see. He's a smart player.

You don't drop a #12 draft pick coming in to his 3rd year - he has enourmous potential and could be a genuine a-grader himself.

A few notable glimpses so far - very important goal vs gws, great mark and goal vs dees, 3 goals in the first final last year vs port. We want more or this not less!

Another question that is not being asked is, what role does Marshal play?

A first round talent by the end of his draft year improved dramatically, to the extent that during pre-Christmas training was deemed to be the best performer on the track.
We are starting opening round with embarrassment of riches. Will it transfer to results?

Id say he would start as Sharp's replacement just outside the 23. First change for a starting wing role behind Berry and Fletcher. He's also probably behind the wing relief guys like Bailey/Ah Chee to start with as well. I think the relief guys need to play a few other roles that I probably wouldnt start Marshall in

Not going anywhere soon. He's 2 games away from getting his son into the club too ! what a legend already thinking about father son as well.

Unfortunately for WA, Callum Ah Chee is determined to stay in Brisbane for the long haul.

“I had a chance to play for the Eagles once, but nah – I’ve got a wife and two kids and Brisbane is home now,” he said.

So, what’s up next for this homegrown talent?

“For my whole life my dream was to play in an AFL Grand Final – and I’ve done that twice now,” he said.

“My next big goal is to make 100 games, which I’m pretty close to now. That way my son can be drafted into the club too.

“But yeah, that’s it – I’m pretty happy, to be honest.”
