Sharman needs to become on average a 2 goal a game forward, as does Owens
11 players average 2 goals a game or more last year. If we want to be generous with what 2 goals is, 21 averaged over 1.8 goals per game (the mark Higgins was at).

Let's be realistic here. Considering that statement wouldn't be wanting Higgins and King to go backwards as players, we aren't going to have 4 of the top 21 goals per games players in the comp.

Screw being realistic. Don't you get enough of that awful shit during the season?

It’s doable if we give them good enough supply

Would also like to see more contribution from the midfield. Pou and Steele reliable shots and Hunter bobs up for an occasional goal. Not sure about Macrae’s output. Hugo looks like a possible suspect to add to the mid goal tally.

I think that will happen naturally if the entire side are not having to spend so much time in defence stopping the opposition scoring. If we can start winning the ball more through centre and hold it in our F50 and get repeat entries the mids will be able to become more offensive.

Previously they couldn't we got so exposed on turn over it was scary.

This.

Speaking of Sharman and two goals.

We notice the forward line is pretty weak in general.

The midfield in '24 was the weakest for ten years?

Then of course, the defence is solid. mostly.

Our coach is a renowned defensive expert, like General Heinrici on the Russian Front.

And like that guy, the odds are stacked against him.

Our fixture calls for a major defensive holding operation until we reach the bye.

And then the attack begins.

So I am bracing myself for some low scores and some frustrations.

But as always, there is one silver lining!

Accuracy from set shots!

If we can start maximizing those opportunities and kick a score of 12.4.76, as we did in Adelaide once, I reckon we are in with a chance.

A reference to Gotthard Heinrici?? On a BigFooty board??!?

I didn’t have that on my 2025 bingo card.

Truly, the Saints board is a Mecca of erudition, culture and education.

Change this -
Heinrici, not Hitler, decided that there was only one strategic course left for Germany-hold the Soviets back along the Oder Front long enough to entice the Western Allies across the Elbe River.

To this -
Ross-the-Boss, not the FOX commentary panel, decided that there was only one strategic course left for St Kilda - ,hold the line through the crappy part of the fixture long enough until we reach the bye - and then cross that Rubicon into immortal glory!

I do not know if this constitutes media - it is just an Essendon fansite, but to whoever bothered, I give them credit. It is fun to see an outsider's POV. (An Essendon one at that! lol - are they not among the most conceited fanbases??)

Among the gems,

My Prediction

For a team that really don’t matter, it is still so much fun to watch them perform so terribly. I think in large part because of the nostalgia, St Kilda being a terrible football team plays such a large part of everyone’s football experience. Combine that with their coach being an arrogant tool and it just feels right that the Saints are mediocre.

SG says,
But when I see the ins and outs that this writer points out...boy we lost a lot of talent. (Not that we really mind, right, cos....)

Ins – Eamonn Armstrong, James Barrat, High Boxshall, Jack Carroll, Alex Dodson, Jack Macrae, Patrick Said, Alix Tauru, Tobie Travaglia

Outs – Matthew Allison, Josh Battle, Riley Bonner, Tom Campbell, Brad Crouch, Jack Hayes, Olli Hotton, Tim Membrey, Ben Paton, Seb Ross, James Van E

Key point I am telling myself, That IS a lot of talent that went through the EXIT. but they are not going to be much good, retired, aged, we hope.

Battle is the only one of those outs who can honestly be considered to have had a good to excellent season. Membrey was very in and out and whilst we will miss him, Sharman is capable of filling that 3rd tall role and average similar numbers.

Its funny though, my active dislike for other clubs comes down purely to how much cheating and administrative bullshit theyve attemped over the years.

Case in point, I think I have good grounds to hate Carlton for salary cap rorting and their actions to try and absorb/destroy smaller clubs and I despise Essendon for both salary rorting and their attempt to badly dope their own players and got a slap on the wrist for it.

Their dislike for us is just they enjoy being a bully.

I recall that The Phantom* once told the pygmy Bantu people that the best way to deal with a bully is to leave the mark of the Phantom Skull Ring embedded on their chin, with pictures to prove it. So, I sent away for my ring in the hope of marking a few chins but when it arrived it was far too big for my fingers. However, on the plus side it had genuine rubies for eyes. By the time it fitted my fingers the rubies had fallen out, although they'd probably been stolen and traded on the black market.

Carlton and Essendon are no longer bullies, look at their past decades, they are laying on their backs with Phantom Skull marks imprinted on their chinny chin chins!!

I hope you are not trying to turn this thread into a circus. Circus, because I have a question for you.

Don’t you agree, Carlton fans are less angry than Essendon fans?

I suppose the bomber fan base doesn’t like much of anything, not even their coach. Agree?

I’m sure the Blue baggers vent at Vossy, but I guess the Essendon lot aren’t that happy either - I reckon they probably aren’t that in love with Brad Scott. They don’t have the hope we have with RTB I’m guessing.

Thank you for this.

Knew nothing about him, but saw his name pop up in these threads, and not in a way suggestive of his credentials as a top line starter in the firsts.

But as SANFL GF BOG for Norwood, ya think we’d pick him for the Gather Round fixture against GWS at Naorwood?

...(cut)
In reference to the 'outs', Paton, Ross, Membrey, Hayes, Bonner and of course Battle, I think my point that they (excluding Battle) won't be much good for our rivals if they are retired or compromised by age etc., is pretty weak. It is like saying we are a car in a race with 17 other cars, and we removed some parts because the bearings in them are getting noisy, and they won't be much use to the other cars as spare parts, being that they are (old parts with noisy bearings'.

Our losses are our losses, period. If our players have aged and fallen off, and been cut from the list, relatively, other teams are immediately better off, unless we immediately trade in better alternatives. And we haven't. (I am not talking future potential here. I am talking from Round One where 4 points are on the table, and they can never be put back there)

That said, we had no choice, and we must evolve, and so must they. Perhaps in every other team, there are three or four who are heading downwards.
