Re: Dyson Heppell

He might be at this stage, but i'm prepared to suggest right now that David Swallow will be the best when their careers are over.

Swallow will be the best player from this draft and there really is no point arguing that, but Heppell was the steal seeing as people rated him as a top 5 pick yet he fell to us at 8.

Heppell will be WAY better than Atley, the Norf fans comparing them and mentioning Atley as better are deluded

Saying Swallow will be the best this early is as bad as saying Heppell or Atleywill definitely be better. Only time will tell. Swallow is an imposing and impressive young man, but who really knows which of the youngsters has the most scope for improvement. It's awesome to see how many fantastic kids are about. Shame we can't get them all, lol.

Re: Dyson Heppell

Get ready, I think he will have a BIG game very soon, by that I mean 30+ poss, 10 marks and a goal or something along these lines.

2 weeks to early
Pretty close though.

30 Poss, 6 marks and a goal.

Re: Dyson Heppell

how. the. ****... did this guy slip to 8?

Genuine elite superstar in the making. So good to have a bona fide "big game" player; and to have him turn it on on the big stage and remind everyone why he's going to win the RS is just brilliant.

Shuey, Smith etc are good, but they're going to have to play bridesmaid this year. Heppell's been so consistent, and his best is so good, it was frustrating to have the goldfish memory BF football public talk smack about him.

Viva la Heppell!!

Re: Dyson Heppell

Went to the game, and watched the replay last night and the one bit of play that made me pause and rewind to make sure I had seen it right was in the 3rd (I think) when Heppell got the ball at the back of a stoppage and was about to load up then dinked this 5m kick to Hocking who was on his outside. It looked like he changed his mind between the ball drop and connection but did it perfectly in traffic. Absolutely astounding.

No idea, that said the top end of last years draft was extremely good. I rated Dyson at 2, and stand by my rankings so far. You cannot coach elite disposal, you either have it or you don't. That said Brisbane and Richmond all have drafted specifically for needs and you cannot blame them for their selections, and Andrew Gaff was the safe choice for West Coast.

Re: Dyson Heppell

A young Gary Ayres in the way he thinks and attacks the game according to Dermie. Despite begrudgingly wanting to praise any Essendon player, rates this kid an absolute gun already and scary good for his age.

Re: Dyson Heppell

Some players have made a bigger impact in their first season before, but I can't remember anyone in their first season showing the composure and awareness of how much time they have as young Dyson has. This is a fantastic quality because along with skills and vision (both qualities than Heppell also has) they are very hard abilities to learn/teach.

The only weakness in his game is possibly upper body strength and tackling, but these are to be expected and neither of them are great weaknesses. They are also things we are much easier to develop.

We have a gem on our hands here, and depending on the progress and consistency of the likes of Melksham, Zaharakis, Colyer, we may only be a midfielder or 2 away :thumbsu:

He's only missing about 45kg (and one beautiful mullet) off Ayres.

Ayres charged through tackles. Hepp simply can't do that.

Dermie was wishing Heppell was Ayres son.
But no just Hird's love child.

It wasn't his physical ability. but more the smarts for the game. Reading the play, calculated risk taking, instinct etc etc.

He will get alot stronger. Not sure that even Heppel can achieve that wonderful mullet though, lol.

Re: Dyson Heppell

Took me a while to think who Atley reminds me of but I have it now, Leigh Harding. Not a pimple of Judd's arse.

Atley, goes ok, but anyone comparing heppell and atley must have the education of bush in the george variety.

Re: Dyson Heppell

I still wish we'd picked Atley instead.

Re: Dyson Heppell

Come on guys, dont be like the other supporters bases,
Atley will be a pretty good player, fortunately for us Richmond pick Conca.
Heppell fell in our lap and I dont know how.

You need to read the infamous Atley Vs Heppell to know where my comment come from. Not generally my style

Shifter Sheahan (sp?) on SEN today saying he was surprised he drifted to us as he thought for sure he would be a top 3 pick. Compared it to Selwoods drafting. If we have that comparison for all his career we are laughing.
