Onto Rhiannon Watt, who comes in as an immediate senior ruck solution. Saints B&F in the VFLW, VFLW team of the year.

186 cms, 30 years of age. We'll probably lose her to the Saints in 2020, but she'll be great to have in the mean time.

Gets involved in the midfield play after dominating the hitouts, so look for us to have some interesting setups next year between Davey, Van Dyk, Moody, Downie, Wilson, Watt and Harris. An athletic and dynamic tall setup at both ends.

Seeing that some other mob stole our VFLW ruck, Rene Caris, getting a replacement is very positive news. Breann Moody was fantastic last year, but she didn't control her taps and we didn't get the centre clearances from her work. Also Alison Moody, who was so good in 2017, really struggled in 2018. We still have her, but having another option is extremely important.
I am hoping we can keep her, but if we lose her to the 'Aints in 2020, well ...

Caris is more in the ruck who supports the midfield rather than feeds it, yes?

Probably not a huge loss initially, and with 1-year contracts currently, it doesn't present as a huge issue. Right now each draft is all about the next season.

Watt was a team player this year on many levels at the Saints, described the club “as the all-round spiritual heartbeat of the Southern Saints.” She was always one of the first to include all new players to the group with a friendly smile and some banter and the first to organise social events and engender spirit among the group.

These qualities were on top of taking on the captaincy mid-year, after Georgia Walker forced to retire mid-season, being voted players’ player of the year, she was named the joint inaugural winner of the club best and fairest award and ensured that all support staff (mostly volunteers) were thanked with small gifts at the B&F function.
