Just out of curiosity - what does someone in this stage of coming back from an ACL actually work on, apart from rehab on the knee itself? Would he be trying to gain upper body strength for example, while he gets mobility/stability back in the knee?

Depends where his rehab is, but he would be probably starting to build the strength up. Generally he would do some weights sessions and some core work I would assume. Probably wouldn't be doing a lot of lower legs work yet.

Yep. That's exactly what he was shown doing in the last episode of the Hangar.

Would suggest that strength work on the leg not injured would be being completed as well. There is a transfer of strength adaptations from one limb to the other.

So strength (not size) training on his non-injured leg can actually cause strength adaptations in his injured leg. He would definitely not have stopped lower body work, on his good leg, at least.

He'd be playing a senior game about now if it wasn't for that injury....spewing.

After many a weeks tracking down Alex, I finally caught up with him.

Spoke to him briefly on the way back from the 3/4 time huddle.

Mentioned he had a clean up of the reconstructed knee but nothing out of the ordinary. Said that rehab was coming along well but this latest setback wasn't going to dampen his mood. Is looking forward to a strong pre season and hit 2014 full steam ahead.

Thanks gents. Sounds like he's giving it everything, anyway. Should be in good nick for next year, fingers crossed.
Don't pay too much attention to the above, they were uneducated guesses. He will have started strength training on the injured leg in the first couple of weeks, and will be doing plenty of it until the day he returns and beyond. He will be doing plenty of proprioceptive work as well. Until he can run (probably can by now, but not for fitness), plenty of swimming, cycling, boxing and whatever else he can to do for fitness.

Not going to be doing a lot of running at the moment.

Had a massive bandage and limp on him at the VFL this afternoon.

That's a worry that Browne had a clean up and is still walking with a limp after four months.Remember Tony Liberatore got back after 16 weeks.

That's a shame, though if not too much of a setback, should hopefully still be able to hit a full preseason.
Naturally you don't ever want to do an ACL, but if you were to pick a time to do it, pre-season is probably the least disruptive.

Was thinking during the week, Alex Browne could be our best young player (outside our best 22).

Powerful, quick, strong hands and decent skills.
It is such a shame he did his knee, otherwise we could have seen plenty of him this year
Under 23; no. Nick O'Brien is definitely better.

id take Browne ahead of NOB. Most would agree too
Browne is the most overrated player on our list. What I've seen of each at both levels, O'Brien's better
