Because no 2nd year midfielder has ever been dropped or played out of position
Out in the big bad world of AFL, he's still got a heap of physical maturing to do. Plus he had groin issues last year.

thanks for the slice of realism; the boy is still pretty much a twig, and has already broken down once under the intensity of the game. It takes most 18 year olds several pre-seasons to harden enough physically to play consistent football

Agreed. He's also just not good enough at this time to be in our first choice midfield rotations. That's no slight on him however. He will get there.

You watch him against our midfield at training and you think, ”gee Tommy has bulked up”. Then he goes up against a seasoned midfield and it’s “ok, he’s got some work to do”

People constantly make the mistake of seeing lean guys in pictures and thinking they're big. Jy Simpkin looks like the hulk in pictures with his arms showing, but put him in a t-shirt and despite all the work he clearly puts in, he's not bigger than the average AFL midfielder.

Powell will be a pretty big midfielder one day but at the moment he's still a rake.

Took a certain inside mid who wears 10 a while to get going too.
Yeah Cunnington was getting caught HTB until abot his 5th year.

Will Powell ever have his body though? If not, will he have the gut running ability? Probably has to work on the running. Use his skills in transition rather than at the coal face.

Oofty goofty, he plays as sub because he's too good to leave out but not fit enough to start. He's also a good sub because he shows high composure. When his body is 100% so too will be his play time.

I would've preferred to see him and Will Phil rocking the reserves in the midfield tbh. But I can see why he was sub.

It's not a bad decision. Give them an opportunity to get some cohesion together again.

yeah I’m convinced all the other clubs have bigger weights than us…..it’s bizarre.

With the new S&C team in place, hopefully that’s changing. It takes time though.

I know people get impatient because we’ve been the definition of mediocrity for 20 years. But it’s only at the end of 2020 that we’ve taken on the task to rebuild the whole club. Membership is good, debt is cleared, we’re finally in a place where we can have a red hot crack at being the best again, not just compete to survive.

LOL...so he's going home too....

JHF back to SA because he wants to win (!!!!), Thomas with the lure of the maps filthy lucre....now Powell...

Anyone else?

All of them

We’ll redraft Farren Rarren and Gavin littlehead.

Imagine if we were stuck with that campaigner...

Yep. Dusty was the one that was workable and when we started down that path we were ahead of most of the comp in where we rated him. Still, if we had him we probably wouldn't have a handful of our most promising players... and so it goes. Football history is littered with gun players that played in teams that never got near putting their hands on the cup. Even Carey needed a good team around him to win them.

When Dusty was really gettable, no one wanted him...

Honestly, if they'd left that run one year later it would have happened IMO. He was at his peak and they were flying towards that first flag when he made the call, if they'd petered out he'd be in blue and white for mine.

Which would be why we're playing him out on the wing.
