Given the whole ecosystem crumbled when Duursma got injured Prior would have been a very nice replacement as a fat side winger given his long kicking, tank and ability to slide back and support the backs.
Duursma was arguably the most important of our recruits last year and it was concerning we weren't even actively looking at him, just fell into our lap because of BZT.
Great that we seem to be addressing it this year though with clarke and prior being recruited (and sounded like we were keen on Jarred Berry but he decided to stay at lions).

Having never really seen Prior play, looking at his stats suggests there's limited evidence he'd be able to fill this role?

But of course stats don't always tell a full picture.

He's more half back than wing.

It’s a mule role.

Track back, track forward, sit in the hole, a couple of overhead plucks, majority long kicks down the line or lateral.

I’m pretty confident he has the attributes to do it. And more importantly no one on the list this year apart from Duursma and Durham could.

Fair enough. I'm not saying he can't, because I've not seen any of his work (that I remember), but just feels like he's more a project to me based on his statistical output.

His dad was a lovely (if predictable, straight down the line) long kick off half back.
Remember seeing him play wing for East Perth in the 92 WAFL prelim against East Freo - honestly thought he was the second coming of Peter Matera and was stoked we got him (top 5 pick)

I hope he has better decision making abilities than his old man:

Drafted third overall in the 1992 AFL Draft, he made the unusual choice at the time to remain with his original club, East Perth, for the 1993 season, Essendons famous 'Baby Bombers' premiership winning year, as he felt that playing regular league football in the WAFL would be better for his development.

And if he did his father would of played enough games that prior would of been eligible as a father son
