Delisted #29: Joel 'Scarface' Smith – banned for four years and delisted

I'm completely aware of the steroids programs that were run in the 80's, I also know which University the main program was run from and which players were involved. That's old news and I'm really not sure how that is relevant to the idiot Joel Smith who allowed himself to get caught.
cheating the system. on other teams. The Hawks were big and aggressive on steroids, and they won many flags that way.

All that the players have to do now is if they think there is a chance of a positive test is to self report and they're fine. Joel Smith is an idiot for getting caught, he should get an extra year for being so ****ing dumb. Unfortunately, he may be lucky and only get 3 months.
Well he should be free, time served already. it's rife everywhere, including with directors of our game.

I do. equality and human rights not to mention his rights as a pro.

And he's fellow demon. We should be backing his release to play.
What are you on about human rights? Human rights is not the right to cheat at sport. He's a professional athlete taking a drug considered performance enhancing. Yes he didn't take the drug for performance enhancing but wada/asada don't about that, they care about a player testing positive to a banned drug on game day. Him being a Melbourne player is irrelevant, all players have to abide by the same rules and I don't have to back him because he is 'one of ours'.

I agree with you that's it's rife everywhere with high income earners, but the facts are that Smith was an idiot for getting a positive test result. The AFL has put procedures in place to protect players from exactly this kind of thing, unfortunately Smith was an imbecile and ***ed up. I have no sympathy for him at all, he gets paid good money to play football, if he can't stay off the nose candy before a game then he doesn't deserve the money.

Performance enhancing.? coke. What as an anti depressant.

... if it was 'meth', then performance enhanced, "such is life", as it was said. The eagles won flags on the stuff.
From fox footy article

Melbourne utility Joel Smith is facing a minimum two-year suspension after being reportedly being found guilty of taking cocaine before a match, which classified as a performance-enhancing drug.

From sports integrity

CAN COCAINE IMPROVE AN ATHLETE’S PERFORMANCE?

Cocaine does have a performance enhancing effect when used In-Competition and is a Prohibited Substance under the World Anti-Doping Code for In-Competition use. As a stimulant, cocaine can produce an intense ‘rush’ with users feeling a sense of alertness, arousal, and increased confidence.

restaint of trade.?
This is getting embarrassing now, he literally cheated and rightfully should be banned. We have a humanitarian crisis in the gaza strip but poor Joel Smith can't play a game.

Your quick to hang your own.

It shouldn't be about luck, good or bad.
Its time this was put to bed. Were you this quick to hang watts.?

I'm not hanging him, I'm stating the facts. He took cocaine and it was in his system on game day. WADA/ASADA consider that as performance enhancing. I don't care if he take drugs or what he does in his private life. Unfortunately his decision to take cocaine during the season could cost him his career. I actually hope he can beat the findings but I'm not holding my breath.

He shouldn't be suspended because he plays for Melbourne is one of the dumber opinions I've seen on here.

Bloke has got a ten year career because of his surname, done absolutely nothing to pay the club back for their patience and turns out he is on the gear a week before finals. Good riddance. At least Oliver has actually contributed.

Dude snorted his career away. End of.

Was lucky to be on the list this long. Had the opportunity, when Tmac was overcooked, BBB as soft as butter, Petty's foot and Melks knee injuries, and ruined it.

In fact, because he plays for Melbourne, we should hold him to a higher standard, because he is an ambassador of the football club. Thus whenever he, or anybody else in the MFC, does something bad it reflects poorly, on not just the club, but we as supporters have to cop it from all walks of life.

Free to daddle in the cocaine market as much as he wants now. Restraints are off!!

shudders I felt that tone of apathy wrapped up in offspring guilt .

"I'm not mad, I'm disappointed" "I'm done looking after you, do whatever you want" kinda vibes.

Totally agree and understand, though.

Deserves a ban for stupidity.

I'm still a bit ho hum about Cocaine being performance enhancing. Wears off quick. Unless you're taking it right before a game, I can't see how it's performance enhancing. Clearly it's a recreational drug. Energy drinks and No-Doze have similar affects surely. Why are they not performance enhancing as they give you a rush as well? Is it only because it's an illegal substance that it's banned?
