Someone mentioned in his player thread that Alwyn Jnr is under the most threat about our off season acquisitions.


This bloke is right next to him. Ethan probably right that he had injuries in year 2.5. With a full pre season maybe we can see him get back to his goal kicking best and have real competition for spots with Kako, Davey Jnr, Menzie, Unwin. Throw in Perkins and Day - Wicks and it'll be a challenge

Given our acquisitions this draft I suspect he’ll need to look at being a back pocket.

Don’t think he has the same amount of tricks up forward as Kako, Davey or Unwin who all have much better leg speed.

That signing was inexplicable at the time and continues to dumbfound. I think the new administration has earned some trust and deserves the benefit of the doubt for most decisions they've made but signing Menzie mid-year (or at all) really makes no sense to me.

I think it makes sense if they place a high value on players having the right attitude

Makes sense to me if you presume the club knew that Jayden Davey and Tex Wanganeen weren't going to make it at the time.

The timing is the only issue with it. If he had been resigned at the end of the year it would have been fine, particularly with Davey and Wanganeen both going out.

We can agree to disagree. You can point to 2023 where he was serviceable, I can point to 2024 where he was just deplorable (don't @ me with 'hyperbolic' - he was terrible). We knew we had a free hit at the best small fwd in the upcoming draft and to re-sign Menzie mid-year instead of at least waiting to see if he lifted at all (he didn't) in the second half of the year was an odd decision to say the least.

He will but he is on the rookie list and him being there is not going to hold us up development wise.

I can point to numerous players older than 21 that have had down years. I think the good year he had was enough to warrant an extra one. It wasn't like he had two down years in a row.

I didn't use the word hyperbolic in reference to you claiming that 2024 was bad, I used it in reference to you saying the signing was inexplicable, which when taking into account the whole picture/context, it wasn't.

I think he showed something down back too, for a smaller player he's a good mark and generally holds his space well. Could see him earning another year as a small defender.

He's slow, fumbly and inaccurate. Counter to this is that he is very brave, tough, smart, decent tank and mark. Just not sure his kicking is good enough to play down back.

I could see him being a serviceable back pocket. Whether that would be enough to keep him on an AFL list or not, who knows.

I think given our draft this year bringing in Kako and Unwin, with Perkins looking more like a FWD than a MID, and ADJ having a turn of pace Menzie doesn't, means he'll be hard pressed to hold a spot as a forward.
