Apologies if this has been covered before but Ryder has threatened to leave previously if his mate Leroy Jetta wasn't contracted. No surprise now that Jetta is officially gone Ryder is playing sook again and trying to use a breach of contract excuse to leave. A player can't hold a club to ransom to keep his mate. This will get murkier if Jetta signs/commits with a club and Ryder then nominates that club...Dempsey may also follows suit...
That's pathetic, if true.

silly logic tho. hooker = GAJ. they're both the best in their possie :drunk:

It's not too far from the truth though. Obviously there's anomalies like GAJ, but it's a lot easier to find another Beams than another Ryder.

It's not really that silly. Hooker can be just as important to a club as Gazza.

In the knowledge that Ryder is leaving, I would swap him for Beams. But hypothetically if Ryder did not want to leave, I wouldn't offer him up in a trade for him - an elite ruckman is bloody hard to find.

Ignoring the specific factors of each player (Beams' family issues, ASADA bullshit etc.), the Pies would do that swap as well.

I agree that Ryder has more 'value' to a team than Beams.. but I do believe Beams to be the better player overall. But BTG (and others) are spot on.. midfielders are more valuable, but also more common, than talls.

No way we volunteer to trade paddy.. but at the same time.. if he wants to go then we get a good trade and move on.

This club is bigger than any individual..

We should apply that to ourselves.

Think our most urgent needs are a third tall back (final v North showed that), mids and a proper, smart small forward.

The Ryder trade needs to satisfy one or more of them.
Why not pick 16 and Trengove (spelling) for Ryder and our 3rd round pick? This is a fair trade and he is also a local Essendon lad.

If Hurley can play 3rd tall back who can swing forward to be a bustling half forward then we'll get full value out of him. Trengove and Hooker allow that.

Carlisle up forward taking big grabs and occasionally swinging vack to plug holes or gain form is getting the most out of him.

Carlisle, Daniher and Trengove can give Bellchambers a chop out.

A fully fit Pears can be a 3rd tall ... and Steinburg cab also develop more.

Hard to even contemplate but Rowey from 5AA said that Paddy is over here (Adelaide) tonight having a bbq with Gus, Boaky, and the boys. They're pretty excited over here; like he has already signed.

5AA is the station that said Carlisle had 100% signed with Hawks last month yeah?

Wouldn't be surprised. They throw a few out there.

Hinkley was on this same station last night. He was lauding Paddy's character and how he would be the perfect fit. But he also said that the possible infraction notices had absolutely no bearing on their pursuit of Paddy and words very similar to the effect that he (Hinkley) is confident that if things went awry that the right people would do the right thing at the right time. (whatever that means)
