Player
Players come and go. List of 40. First weak of pre season it will be Paddy who.

1 decent ruck is enough to win flags. We've got one. First time I can recall we've had currency on the trade market.
Any of the ruckmen looking to move clubs to get better opportunity would look at essendon as a great opportunity.

If I were Giles I'd be choosing us.

This is what I am hoping.

Ruckmen are massively overrated. They are important no doubt, but not essential.

I mean we won 93 with Peter 'I trip over my own feet' Sommerville.

We have had this quandary fro a while about good ruckmen and fitting them in. This is a blessing in disguise.

Get a good pick or gun mid and I am happy. Though we need a solid backup (Giles yes please) and TBell to have a good preseason.

We won't be the same team if we replace Paddy with Giles. Our mids thrive on Paddy and he does well up forward.
Call him shit now all you want, but he is going to be a massive loss next year.

Ok Port supporters time to get real, Lobbe's a shit-truck, Ryder is the missing link, pick your best 1/2 dozen players put them aside then start talking some realistic turkey, your best pick & everyone else on the table for our perusal.

Prefer to send Paddy to a bottom 5 club, they have more to offer and more likely to give it. Plus he's less likely to win a flag.

EDIT: they wouldnt have more to offer, because port has better players. but they have better picks.

I'm with ya!, GWS is the go for sure, Port & their supporters have just been hit with the reality stick and need to start getting realistic if they want Paddy at Alberton.

Ottens was a major reason Cats won 2 of their 3 flags,
Jolly was a major reason the pies won 2010

Ruckman aren't overated. if your ruckman is dominant it can cover for being a bit down in the midfield.
Both TBell could match. Aside from Cox, no other team I can think of recently has won with an AA level ruck. So yes they are handy, but aren't the missing piece.

And Pies had shittrucks before Jolly. Ottens was like Clark K, barely played till finals. TBell can match these guys in outputs if he gets a good run at it.

"The clause" has always existed and has never been used. That was confirmed by Simon Madden who was on the team who wrote the bloody thing when he was with the AFLPA.

Basically for it to come into effect the player has to prove that the club has not fulfilled it's obligations under his contract.

All that's changed is the player now becomes a free agent rather than having to go into the draft to get to a new club. In line with the introduction of free agency.

He's either traded, leaves for nothing by proving a breach if contract (which Essendon would surely fight), or he stays.
Oh I understand that. I'm just interested to see how it plays out if it does get to that stage

Needs to be posted, reposted and permanently stickied.

Spot On. Can't understand why media doesn't tell the truth and actually, novel idea, INFORM the public of the situation.

They ran the same BS stories last year about the players using the 'clause' too..

Media tell the truth. What planet are you from? The media must serve their masters. Truth is but a by-product to the clicks they require.

Nothing on the club web site yet about Paddy leaving o_O
Hoping the only thing we hear about it is something on October 1st:
EFC today completed a deal that will see Patrick Ryder move to the <insert club here> for the 2015 in return the club has received Pick <insert number here> in the NAB National Draft and exciting youngster <insert name here>. The club wishes Ryder and his family all the best at his new home. Ryder played XX number of games for the Bombers after being drafted in yada yada yada.

<Young Player traded> is exciting midfielder with pace and skills. EFC Recruitment manager is very excited to have him on board. <insert quotes here>

Won't be that simple. It will drag on all trade period and then we get shafted.

For mine the priorities are:

Third tall back - Fletch will be gone soon and we're exposed here without him. Someone who can play tall but also has an attacking side to their game

Genuine quality small forward: a real goal kicking threat. We don't have this and chappy will play only one more year.

Mids: quality. If we get picks I think it's best to use them here as they can come on fairly quickly. But please god... no more short people! A bit of size!

If it's Brisbane or Port in the race so far, I'm interested in:

Rockliff
Zorko
Wingard
Hartlett
Polec
Westhoff
Wines
Gray

I get they wouldn't be all available, I'm just saying that IMO, this is the type of conversation that needs to happen if these guys are serious about Ryder.

Lol the shit storm in here is hilarious.

He's gone, but we are Essendon, we are bigger than Paddy, bigger than ASADA, bigger than all of this. We will move on, and we will be the first team to 17.

We want a ready to go best 22 player, but clubs aren't going to part with one. It will be a young player, not yet established but showing promise. Hopefully we do our homework and we nab a gem. We want a top 5 draft pick, we deserve a top 5 draft pick, but it may not be. Hopefully we draft another gem, wherever it lands.

I'm glad I spent my time watching awesome displays of football this weekend, rather than trawling through how many pages of this? I think everyone needs to hug and make up.

I hope the Hawks deny the COLAs next week.
