Player Watch #30: Reece Conca

Posted this last week. Puts things into perspective. I think Conca has more upside too. His averages have been okay, but he has never had continuity in his football either. I reckon if he can have an extended run of playing, he'll be a lot better than people think he is.
I can live with injuries as an excuse or reason why a player has not performed well. But stats aside and they are not great it is not what can be measured thru stats but what i see.
Have said this regularly his lack of awareness most of the time, his regular poor decision making and brain fades has had me wanting to see the back of him for the last three yrs.It is a reasoning that more or less said very average player who can not get on the park move him on while we may still get something for him and try again. Now we are to the stage where we will have to move him on and there will be no getting anything for him.

I ask myself if he was junior and we had this history to go by where would i take him in the nd. Simple answer is i would never use a pick inside the first three rounds and to me that makes him very expendable.

Trade bait , Conca is exactly what Freo need for when we take Weller off them

I'm not sure he is what anyone needs but could be proven wrong

Conca has no trade value, the only thing it would benefit is salary cap relief.
Yep, he has no trade value, but he does have value to us. As long as he stays fit for the whole season I believe he is best 22.
He is only 24, prime candidate to have that break out year that we expected the last few seasons. I hope we stick with playing him in the backline and see what he can do.

Happy to still have him
If he can get back to his best form, pre hammy injuries, we have a player who is tough, tackles and adds run and carry through the midfield and half forward.

People have already forgotten that less than two months ago nobody wanted this bloke.
Which is why it's a no brainer to keep him on a cheap Money. While it's a big if, if somehow he puts his injures behind him and is even just a solid player you would be happy

That defies logic as why would we keep him if 17 other clubs turn their nose up to him? With a fragile body and bugger all games in three seasons rookie Short went passed him and pick 51 Markov blew him off the radar. Not hard to replace solid citizens who are fragile at best. Ding Dong couldn't get a game for the Dogs and he
Is a gun compared to Conca.

Nothing that short or markov have done has emulated conca at his best yet

Conca at best was 2013 and it was nothing great. He is nothing special and the two other blokes are just kids young in the system .Markov is already passed Conca in all facets of the game , so I call you bs on that. Even Short has shown in two seasons that he is capable. If Conca wasn't a pick six he would be playing in country WA by now if he was lucky. It's a bit like Wallet gifting Rambling so many games in hope that one day he would evolve into MRioli.
It's the old chestnut current value v potential value.
Conca cv is 1/10 and pv is 3/10
Markov cv is 5/10 and Pv is 8/10
Short cv is 4/10 and PV 6-7/10

I still shake my head at that free kick & 50 he have away against the dogs in the last quater. Pretty much sums up his career..
