Preuss’ playground

Tim Watson’s love for Braydon Preuss is becoming validated.

The cult hero is suddenly becoming much more than just an ex-rugby novelty. North Melbourne deployed Preuss in the ruck at the opening centre bounce on Saturday, and it stayed that way for majority of the game. This, of course, in a team that contains Todd Goldstein, the All-Australian ruck man from just two years ago.

While Shane Mumford was probably the best player on the ground, Preuss held his own against his direct opponent. Remember, this is a player appearing in just his third AFL game.

Preuss’ 26 hit-outs, 16 disposals, nine marks and two goals showed he is a real talent and as he acquires a greater knowledge of the game’s intricacies, he’ll only get better.

Unsung Heroes for Round 3:

North Melbourne vs. GWS Giants: Braydon Preuss

The Kangaroos have snared one here. The 21-year-old converted from Rugby League in his late teens and eventually found his way to the Gold Coast academy but was snatched by North Melbourne in the rookie draft a year later. Still learning the game but growing each week, Preuss stands at 206cm and weighs 109kg and can play. Taking on one of the more feared players in the league in Shane Mumford, Preuss more than held his own collecting 16 disposals, nine marks and kicking two goals — one a massive bomb from behind the 50m arc.

NDS on SEN this morning was of the opinion we will try and trade Goldy at the end of the year, has the largest contract at the club and makes sense to clear even more cap space for Kelly.

This just underlines how manipulative the AFL media are. (SEN continue to drop the ball on logical topics of discussion).:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Why can't North have BOTH FFS? o_O If anything, the fact is that Preuss has passed the underachieving Majak Daw. Daw isn't consistent enough for mine to keep. Can't be overlooked for a trade either. Something to throw at SEN but they'll go to a commercial break of four ads and give us the 'meh.. time for the news' reply.

Mumford best player on ground, lol.

If you take his impact on Saturday out… the GWS wouldn't have controlled the game the way they did. He was very efficient and it was one of the better BIG MEN clashes of the season. Mumford still amongst the BEST 4 Ruckmen in the league. If you can't appreciate what he brings to the AFL's darling team, I don't know what to tell ya..

Mumford was good but he definitely wasnt best on ground. Especially when you have your direct opponent kicking 2 (I also believe he kicked 1-2 points as well?), 9 marks etc.

Majak is fine and will play as a KPF who gives MINOTAUR the chopout.

Goldy to the Dogs for a mid teens pick.

I think this time last year when both Goldy & Maxxy Gawn had a riveting duel (for the ages mind you!!).. both ruckmen can still get votes.

You realise that B.o.G. is a subjective topic when you have a team performance. Goldy was getting similar accolades in 2015 but I thought the players around him made his game better with effective clearances which comes back to the tap outs impact. On the flip side, Sheil butchered the ball big time.. they kicked haphazardly into their fwd 50 like Mumford was a popcorn machine at the cinema's on the opening day of the new Star Wars movie.. but much of the fwd entries by GWS were from rebounds from North's ineffective disposals forced by turnovers / immense pressure by a quality team running harder. Mumford was above serviceable who did his job. Umpires looked after him extremely well too.

Despite his ability, not sure who would give us fair value for Goldy at age 29. Would need to be a side who see themselves contending in the next 3-4 years.

GWS have Mumford who is 1-2 years older and rarely injured, Dogs don't value ruckmen and are developing English, doubt the Swans or Cats have salary cap space (maybe we'd pay some), Dees have Gawn, Port have Ryder, West Coast have NN, Crows Jacobs, Pies Grundy, Lions Martin, Freo, Blues and Hawks rebuilding, etc.

Suns have Witts and will have cap space when GAJ goes. I reckon they're capable of storming up the ladder when they get their shit together like GWS did. Might be interested.

Yeh but the difference is there both Gawn and Goldie were the two best in that game, I was thinking about that game when i typed it actually :). What I meant was that neither Mumford or Preuss were best on ground. On a side note I believe Preuss was the better of the two but both werent best on.

But yeh its all subjective :)

Preuss passing maj Come on now.. he still has a lot to learn as they both do but to say preuss has passed maj over 2 decent games is a joke!! Preuss is talented no doubt.

Hope maj can kick 6 against the dogs this week like he did a few years back.

He played well against the Cats but missed a very gettable set shot which isn't good enough from someone like him who has seen better days in front of goals. Preuss is continuingly proving to have impact up forward and in the ruck in each of his games!! Daw has stagnated. Too inconsistent. Prove us doubters wrong. I actually trust Goldy more to hold a mark and kick straight.

Adelaide final clearly showed he hasn't stagnated

It's great to have a ruckman with a streak of mongrel again. Alex Ischenko was a player who made those who played around him walk a little taller knowing that there was an enforcer nearby. Preuss is a player in the same mould, he seems to enjoy the physical side of the game and heaven help the competition when he gets more experience. Definite cult hero material
