Not sure why people believe the wing is his best position.

In juniors he done his best work as an inside midfielder and has an intercepting/running half back. He either uses his height and agility in congestion or he uses his closing speed and vertical across half back. As much as I’d love to see him get a run in the midfield I think he is the perfect 3rd tall type in the backline.

In my opinion he simply doesn’t have enough natural endurance to be able to play as a wingman. All the best wings in the comp are able to cover 13+km per game, both at high speed and low speed. It just doesn’t suit him being a more powerful athlete
He doesn't scream wingman but at the same time his best 2 games at AFL level so far (Rd 23, 2022 & Rd 24, 2023) were both on a wing.

I don’t think we can have Sheeze, Colby & Fisher all playing the back 50 at the same time. It’s too small & not defensive minded enough.
I really liked Goaters game in the intra club & think his height/marking power should see him ahead of Fisher.
Although I guess we might play them all with Sheeze & maybe even Colby to rotate through the midfield
Exactly. Fisher needs to outplay McKercher or he will come in as the sub and push Sheezel forward. Or, alternatively, Sheezel will be moved up the ground once Fisher is fit.

Goater is too valuable for his size and leaping ability.

fascinating prospect. im less certain than ever about what kind of player hes going to end up being, but he has some special attributes. hes playing well.

I’m of the opinion it’s confidence and the belief he belongs that’s holding him back at the moment.

Today was a step in the right direction, but I think we’ll have a very good player when it clicks.

I think he has the confidence to take the direction to ‘take it on’. He’ll look better once others do.

It’s more lmac he’s competing with
No contest Goater plays over McDonald every time.
If Goater is made to step aside and play 2nds and McDonald plays ahead of him this will prove there’s players no matter how little pre season or how bad there been in the past they will always play ahead of emerging talents.

Without doubt he is in our best 22.

Big positive yesterday for me was not only some of his kicking, but more importantly his defensive efforts. He beat Membrey (who is no scrub) on a number of occasions and you could see he was really using his closing speed to impact the contest.

Sky is the limit.

I love that he is 190cm but has similar athletic traits to Wardlaw, in particular his vertical leap, so he can possibly go with smalls and more importantly the athletic tweener (188-192cm) types that are emerging (Owens, JUH et al).
