Why do people mention Gibiscus as a Key Long Term Defender where he has only played a handful of games prior to his injuries. He has not yet established himself as a Key Defender nor has he been listed as one of the best players for Richmond nor has achieved a BOG performance. Everything is heresay at the moment where players such as Trainor Blight or even Young have the potential to be better contributors.
Really find this sort of logic hard to understand.
He played 18 games in his first season as basically a third tall. He played third tall because as a just drafted kid he was undersized.
To play 18 games was an achievement in its self im not sure what peoples expectations are of skinny 18/19 year olds in season one but boy imo he showed off all of the great attributes that made him a highly touted key defender as a junior.
Late in the year he slowed up a bit as is expected of first year players.

He has basically missed the following seasons thru injury and we go off what we have seen in his first season and his junior career.
Everything with his exposed form to date has screamed out future quality key defender. Geez potential!!!! then we are talking about attributes for the role and imo he has more attributes than any kpd we have on the list.

His marking his leap his reading of the play and his movement across the ground is top notch. The only things he lacked in year one was some size and strength and experience.
Potentially the best key defender we have drafted imo and until he gets a clear run with injury it is only potential.
Thing is most players eventually overcome injuries and if he does you can only salivate at the potential this kid has displayed as junior and his first year, Thats it we wait and hope he gets fit we judge him on what he has shown prior to injuries because that is all there is atm but its his potential that has people mention Gibcus as a long term defender

Obviously if he cannot overcome injury issues then we have a bust but if he does most people i know have little doubt we have an absolute beaut player on our hands.

I have Trainor and Gibcus as our Grimes and Broad replacements.

Trainor and Gibcus are taller, much more skilled, and as juniors not genuine stoppers. Both Grimes and mint cans were basically stoppers, with some rebound capability.

So not player for player replacements. But as components in our backline I see them being amazing.

is that what you mean?

Without putting words in Grockadoc ’s mouth I’m assuming he means he are the guys that will take up the respective roles they played in the side

Grimes being our main general key back who took the most dangerous player and Broad essentially the 2IC down back

Think if Gibcus & Trainor stay fit and build up strong they may end up being a BIG part of the unassailable wall of Tiger defence. Something to get very excited about….. but hey no pressure!! 😜

Life time crazy Norf supporter ends up at Richmond and becomes a gun because North wont trade #2 and take a flakey mid
miss out on Trainor & Armstrong

Then trade future pick #1 for a Whit Lock :D:D
trainor will be a gun, absolute unicorn player being that tall, agile and having his hands and skills. fos just a run of the mill mid.

He’s a wingman imo and should play there …. Not just a role player wingman like where used to but an attacking one with some run and carry and clean skills that will be damaging on offensive plays
He’s played pretty well most of his junior career as a defender, that’s his position. Intercept marking and great distribution skills.
We became good under Dimma when we played players in their natural positions where they excelled as juniors, no need to change that philosophy now imo.

Actually not a bad idea. Can run and jump, is a very good mark, great for his size at ground level and has very good disposal.

He is a bit light for the back half right now, and the backline is pretty full with mobile talls. He is probably an ideal Broad replacement in a couple of years, so why not try him elsewhere and see how he goes.

He will make a great wingman …. Trust me on this

Maybe but he will be a better defender imo
Broady did say he was the only new recruit training with the backs, meaning he’s learning the structures, positioning etc to play that role.
That could change I suppose, but to keep it simple this early in his career. Nail down the defensive role.
