Whately on SEN this morning basically said that the real season proper starts tomorrow night and our game was a bit of a waste of time.

Nice to know the afl media thinks we shouldn't even bother to turn up.

The arrogance of these people. I hope we teach them a lesson.
how many more games did essendoom win than us last year ? 5 ? big deal

they need a rebuild lol

The prospect of a starting midfield of nankervis , McIntosh, hopper and Taranto ensures that the only job tougher in football aside from being a richmond forward is being a Richmond defender .
Starting a rebuild with one way shit skilled midfielders , despite their age or experience, is a disaster .

Sam McLure has tipped Carlton to win by 82 points.

The arrogance. The media hates us.
Think the producers in the media are playing 4d chess with McClure, they knew they had to give him a plum job but knew he’d make an utter arse of himself on the regular. At best his colleagues tolerate him, but mostly they’d be laughing at him behind his back. expect someone like Lloyd to throw in the odd subtle jab that he won’t notice.

He’s being turned into a bullying victim of which he will be completely unaware, a bit like butters from South Park except too arrogant and nasty. The producers are going to try and marginalise him and persuade him to leave subtly enough so daddy won’t notice. Eventually Sam would resign kinda like Luke Darcy did, difference being if someone put Sam’s iq in a microwave he’d realise that like Darcy everyone hated him all along.

As time goes on I think more and more people appreciate Richo as a player. Could play at full forward, centre-half forward or on the wing. Was versatile and had an excellent tank - could seriously run all day. Great engine...aerobic engine. Fantastic mark of the ball too. His kicking....yeah it was bad at times...but he did kick 800 goals.

Really good career. In 1996 he kicked 91 goals. Could of won a Coleman but had all time greats Lockett and Dunstall in 1st and 2nd position.
Richo had his flaws-mostly out of frustration, but his upside was huge, he was buddy before buddy, and had he played in a good team he wouldve kicked 900+
EDIT...

Naismith, Ryan and Koschitzke didn't play rd 1 last year. Also our biggest out: D. Martin.

Nank, Lynch and mansell did play rd 1 last year. So can't really be ins.

Looks like it.
Compared to last year, loosely linked by position/role played:

Grimes --> Trainor
Young --> Blight
Gibcus --> Miller
L Baker--> Tom Brown
D Rioli --> Banks
Pickett --> Tresize
Prestia --> Sonsie
M Rioli --> S Green
Balta--> H Armstrong
S Bolton --> S Lalor
D Martin --> J Bauer

Actually thought that Grimes retired earlier than that?

He also missed a few games due to injury too.

10 year anniversary of Kmacs blistering debut. Torched Juddy.
Only fitting he is the star again tonight ⭐

Seriously, are we in it or blooz by 60+?
Probably the latter sadly! We're a mile off it and that's fine, this is a rebuild from scratch, with a few old stars hanging around and a couple of OK mature aged players to keep it the tiniest bit respectable.
Let's just enjoy it for what it is.

I'm ok with three debutants and then experience. Might not matter but if he senior bodies make us semi competitive then makes it easier for draftees to play well. McCauliffe also was a later pick who imo has to beat down the door in the vfl first.
yeah it cant be full slash and burn approach, throwing kids that arent ready into the meatgrinder. kids will only learn how to get flogged each week. has to be a balanced approach and i think theyve got it about right atm. as long as kids banging down the door in the seconds arent being ignored for dow and co.

Who would you be opening with against Cripps, Walsh and Cerra ?
