Needs some spinach

I really wanted him to play more matches in the seniors. With the injury crisis, I still think we should if only to draw a definitive line through his name. Not sure now what is in more dire straits, our key position or our ruck stocks. But boy watching him yesterday was a sobering experience.

I am going to differ from the majority of opinions here. I thought he provided some structure to the team which has been lacking since Lynch got injured. He was useless but his mere presence allowed us to put Balta back where he is much better.

It highlights why we need to recruit Noah Howes.

You are accurate that structure wise the team looked better & it makes sense to just name the players that can support that VS form etc.

All the players between 22-24 should be getting games. If by season ends any of them are not worthy of a game on merit still, delist them. Ryan, Dow, Cumberland, Miller, Kosi, Ryan, Coulthard, Ralph-smith..... they have 2024 to show they can play senior footy otherwise i would delist them

I've been a fan of Samson since he arrived and see a lot of potential in him, but he needs to be played as a full time ruck to unlock that potential. I'd actually be happy for Ryan to go back to the VFL and be given the rest of the season as the number 1 guy in the VFL where he can play against some good experienced rucks and develop his ruck craft, his endurance and his understanding of positioning around the ground to ensure he impacts in more areas than just at stoppages/ruck contests. This year he has been splitting time with Naismith all through the season and IMO it's stunted his development. With Naismith unfortunately injured now, there is an opportunity for Ryan to step up and prove that he is the long term option to replace Nankervis over the next 2 seasons.

I don’t understand how he clunks them at VFL level every week but has feet for hands when he plays AFL
He actually double grabs a lot at VFL level as well, especially in contested situations. It's the one thing that really holds him back

What frustrates me about this bloke is that he still looks like a skinny kid. Why isn't he putting on weight over each preseason? He just gets rag dolled at around the ground stoppages, and is susceptible to early body work in marking contests. Big difference in strength and smarts when you step up a level, and he just isn't a big enough physical presence. At 23, he should be bigger, heavier and stronger by now.

Saturday night wasn't an easy night to have your selection back into the 1's, the ball was pretty slippery. I reckon to give him another couple of goes in different conditions.
developing slower than I'd hoped but still a great chance for a massive career. no one knew who max gawn was until his fifth season. played a lot at casey and as a second stringer to mark jamar :p

Nank was his age when we recruited him in 2017.

Real Man v Wimp.
Sad thing is Nank was actually 18 months younger than Ryan is now when he took over in 2017. Like RCD it's rare to develop mongrel. If your career is up in the air at his age and you're not at least showing some guts & desperation on nights where youve barely touched it, you really don't belong at the level. Sad thing is he probably already has a contract in front of him by virtue of his height alone. Hopefully they drop the $value as he's worth SFA.

Hard gainer... He needs 2 more years minimum. And some roids.

How many of those can we delist anyway? Grimes and Naismith surely retire. Then McIntosh and Pickett as well, who knows with Dusty. Prestia wouldnt want to get injured again. Then Baker and Rioli could leave, Graham as well. Teams dont really draft a huge amount of players these days in an 18 team comp. 6 at most really.

On Ryan, I dont see him reading the play well enough as a forward, always seems out of position early. But we are really short on talls, Nank cant expected to play every week at this age. He probably has to get another contract even if hes no good.

His hopeless marking technique...both palms out...splatt/wobble...drop...is he scared of extending his arms which leaves him totally open for physical oppo contact?!?
If he braces for physical contact in a marking contest, then his hands also harden up...footy hits hard hands...wobble/drop!
Soft hands, nice grab!
