Hayes Brown showed a bit as well so you would think would improve.

Could always throw in Colina, 3 years in and they still can't get a picture of the Richmond website. 19ft tall and nobody has ever met him, might unsettle Gawn for a couple of ball ups.
Great for the VFL team cos I remember some short KPF doing a fair bit of rucking due to Miller, even, getting promoted. Delisting bigoa.
Colina won't play either. Kosi be better, if he spends time in the VFL. Soldo turned into a good VFL player quickly. I cannot see Colina doing the same.

It's funny I was making this video below while this thread started kicking off on exactly the same topic.

I reckon Samson can make it as our number 1 ruck.

Come at me.

He should

But stop playing him foward , He is Ruck and should be playing full time Ruck

Its one thing to back him in, already in year 5. but if he does not improve will they have the balls to say no we made a mistake.

Should we have all of our future eggs in the Ryan and Basketballer baskets? or should we have another likely prospect just in case, given Nankervis is already 30 and the likes of Ryan and Colina have shown so little to date?

Prudent list management suggests we need to cover our bases.
Whats Sims ?
Chopped liver

Already tall as Nank and a 20cm bigger leap and will be the same size as TDK in 2 years

Seen enough from Sims to tell he’ll be a serious player, the height and leap combo, clunks marks, looks like he competes hard. Give him a couple of years to develop physically.

What is it with Colina?

Not one person on hre has ever seen him play senior football off a reasonable preparation.

But everyone seems to know he is not capable of playing good football ever.

The games we've seen, he looks like a newborn giraffe.

Have you ever tried to play Aussie Rules off no pre-season, after not having played the sport for many years, starting against players who are fully prepared and in the middle of a season?

It would be next to impossible for the absolute most talented of players, let alone a marginal player.

You don't need that to be able to run and jump.

The problem with Ryan is he's a winging sook. Whenever he loses a contest or has a decision given against him he immediately complains to umpires or loses focus on getting back in the game. It will take a massive turn around for this spud to become a viable ruck option.

Hmm Thomas Sims 199cm kpp who can pinch hit in the ruck. Or is he a Ruckman who can pinch hit as a third tall fwd.

Coleman- jones anyone or how about Vickery or Elton, maybe McBean, Griffiths or how about Adam Pattison how many have we had that just never reached a high enough standard in either role. Just okay ruckmen and just okay kpp never mastering either.
Not saying that will happen with Sims but if he is more of a kpp than ruck then we need a young ruckman in our system.
Even if he is a #1 ruckman i think we need another genuine young ruckman in our system and stop relying on big reaches with basketballers and a 24 yr old who has been absolute dross at the top level. Those three look more like busts than players atm.

Sims to me looks more likely as a kpp than a ruck, either way i just hope he is very good in one of the roles

Just go out and buy a decent ruck - we can’t develop ‘em.
Nothing wrong with Nank, Big Ivan, Staff, Troy the Boy, Gregory Dear.

Too early to say with certainty Nostradamus!

Soldo?
CCJ played a massive 8 games and then North threw the kitchen sink at him, we couldn't retain him.
then injured, so hardly plays.

Sims is 199 and I can testify that boys can grow after 18. I grew 3, 4 cm at 19 y.o.

We lose Naismith, gain Sims. Gain a one year older Ryan. That's enough ruck depth. Most of the time its KPFs doing back up rucking.

RFC have back up rucks with low TOG, Miller in 2022 final. Ryan ~ ground zero 2024. Ryan will be able to handle that. Sims ~ maybe rucks in the VFL.

Cripps was 188cm in his Rookie me profile in his draft year
Now he is listed as 195cm

My nephew also had a 4 cm growth between 18-20
its very common specially with boys that are athletes it seems

The simple reason we Mostly stop growing at around the age of 18 - 20 is puberty. Most of us finish puberty around this age. With the end of puberty our growth plates STOP growing and fuse.

Growth plates are layers of cartledge found at either end of long bones of children and adolescents. They are part of the bone that grows longer. Once a bone is fused it can't continue to grow longer. Hence we stop growing.
Who am i to argue with the science.

Growth charts shows most guys grow just a little after the ages of 18.
In rare cases some people may hit puberty in their late teens and continue to grow into their early twenties.

Research also shows MOST boys reach their peak height at around the age of 16. It also shows our biggest growth spurt happens between the ages of 12 and 15.

Dont shoot the messenger just useing the easily accessible science.

In most cases 18 is about the time we stop growing, we may grow a centimetre or two over the next few years but usually our growth plates are fused by then.

To significantly grow after age 18 is not the norm, it does happen but it is not common according to the research.

Me im gunna trust the science

Patrick Cripps was listed at 191cm for the start of the 2014 season. According to which site you look at im going by draft guru he has since been listed at 193cm which would tie into the research perfectly.
Even if he has grown to 195cm i would suggest it happened at around age 21 22 and he is one of the rare players who hit puberty in his late teens.

Simply put i dont believe we can trust all of the measurments we are given as too often they have been shown to be all over the shop.
Research does show it is mostly at around the age of 18 with the end of puberty for most of us that we stop growing.

Love his tools, but he is a logn ay from eh finsihed article.

he could play ruck with hsi height and athleticism. But if he grows a coupl eof cm then he si right there to be a serious player. He has the athleticism and build to be a good ground player as well as he leap to be a good ruck. Nank would be a great mentor I woudl think.

But right now Ryan has the inside running ofr he next couple of years to be an AFL ruck. If his training performances can be translated to eh real thign we've finally got a good one. I'll wait on that.

How often have we said in previous years with Ryan if he can translate training performance.
He now has three years so i suppose we are gunna find out one way or another.

Sims well i agree he may well turn into a good ruckman and he may even become an ideal ruck/fwd.
Personally what ive seen of him i think he looks more like a kpp atm.

As i said above i would be really happy as long as he becomes real good in one of those roles.
As i also pointed out there has to be a concern with this type given the misses we have had over the years with so many who never ever became proficient enough in one of the roles and ended up just okay at best at both and ultimately expendable.

Oh while on the subject of height then im out of here for awhile.

How many of our listed players excluding this years draftees have grown more than a few centimetres from their first year to now.

I would hazard a guess and say pretty confidently that only Brown fits that criteria and i am highly suspicious about him being 195 or even 193cm for that matter.

On our entire list he is likely the only outlier of growing more than just a few cm after 18 yrs of age.

Having stood next to this lad if he is 195 them i am 190cm because i am 185cm and no way on earth is he 10cm taller than me.
