Player Watch #32: Tom Sparrow – in until 2026

I’m not saying he’s the source though, he’s just an example of how we are still too stagnant with team structure.
Flicked Jordan and Harmes, brought in Billings and Windsor who have played almost every game. Given Howes games down back. Brought Disco in to play up forward. I think we've made plenty of changes and not sure dropping Sparrow (who has had some decent games this year, along with some bad ones) for Sestan/Tholstrup/Kynan Brown will have much impact.

Sestan has improved in the VFL but would struggle to run out a game of AFL playing high half forward which requires a lot of up and back running given his conditioning.

He's had opportunities this year to show he's more than just a bog average role player but I think that's what he is.

Surprised he doesn't get demoted to the vfl considering his lack of output but maybe he does more to please the coaches than what we see as fans.

Credit where it's due, thought he was a level above his poor recent weeks tonight. If that's his ceiling then he needs to bring that most weeks.

I don't want to sound negative he was solid tonight but I hope that's no his ceiling because I would want a bit more from himm

Thanks gander 🙌
I’ve changed my mind watching it again - puts noticeable effort in throughout if you watch him closely.

Though the results and impact are pretty much the same so yeah, running in a threatening manner still doesn’t fully explain his role in the team or his contract extension

I'm under the weather but I didn't think he was any different at all to normal?
I'll need to watch the replay but watching live he was more noticeable. I think it was the style we seem to switch the ball across the half forward line more and he always seem to be in the middle of the chain. I don't recall him doing anything damaging just 20 meter kicks to players on the outside. Not better but he wasn't invisible. As I said I'll need to watch the replay he might have done some other good things.

I haven't seen the game, but i was very much pointed out on the radio broadcast i heard on the way home that he hadn't had a tackle

Was very much a sparrow game, I only watched just over half the game. He was okay in the first usual get the ball easy safe handball. Had 9 disposals then after the 1st quarter had another 7 disposals and ended up with 16. So 2.33 disposals a quarter after that. Meanwhile Fremantle walked the ball out of the middle with no pressure. At one point hayden young made a coffee before clearing the ball out of the centre.

Funny how this thread gets bumped after a big loss. There was more than one passenger today but yet again the BF whipping boy cops it.

Gawn, Oliver, Viney & Petracca smashed. Backline turn it over for 7+ goals.

BF: HoW CouLd SpArRoW Do ThIs?!

I'm not sure what the infatuation is with this bloke on here. Is he the whipping boy now? It's time to give him full games as a pure midfielder. Surely it's time to see if he's more than just this. Wasn't the worst today, but he's adding nothing to the team week in week out.

lmao i wasn't singling him out completely, as i said i didn't watch the match and it's so obviously we ****ed up as a team and as a whole. But i thought it bizarre he didn't have one tackle, which i will point out in "His" thread. I like Sparrow, but it was really odd to not lay one

Dont apologise PerfectFooty , crack that whip til your hearts content

He cops it because he got whipped in the midfield. He isn’t depth, he isn’t a role player. He is our midfield, and he gets towelled week in week out.

Does he even play midfield? I honestly can't tell you where exactly he plays. I just don't know hat he's adding to the team.
