Defenders first job. Lock down your man. This guy does that. People speak of his kicking which has improved immensely since his first year but fact is if he keeps his man to 1-2 goals a game he's done his job. Even having just one extra natural defender in our backline made them look much better... plays every week if fit

10 more kgs, 50 more games, a bit more polish and some extra flat out thuggery.

We’ll have Glenn back.

Was reminiscing how during 96 Denis could play Archer down back to get the game under control in the first half, then just turn the pressure up second half and throw him forward where he'd get 3 goals on cue.

Jackson will never have that ability but there's definitely some beautiful familiar warrior traits there to remind of his dad and those more pleasant times.

Quite right on the first point

On the second, I do recall being at Arden st to watch Jackson's first VFL praccy as a 17 year old. From that I deduced that it was in fact Jackson who first coined the phrase Northball, which in his incarnation involved the following steps (1) spoil (2) scrag (3) generally inconvenience and - if by some chance he got the ball - (4) handball and (5) avoid kicking under any circumstances

The boy's come a long way

Might be too much Donvale and not enough Noble Park for that but he detests being beaten and that is a strong trait in inherit. Stays in. Had few possessions himself but his opponent will earn every one. As every has observed he is a genuine defender of which we have very few.

Great to see Arch back on the weekend. Not every player needs to be getting 20+ disposals per week and his ability to actually defend plus the fact he genuinely cares means he has to stay in the team.
Every possession he stops the opposition getting is worth 1 back the other way. We need more players neutralising every contest.

Think about what this kid has done.

Most thought it was a stretch to draft him, I thought it was a joke after watching his highlights and his first game or two in the VFL.

Made his debut later that season v Adelaide and was solid, improved quickly.

Told to get himself as fit as possible and worked too hard and after smashing the time trials and exploding his running ability out of sight has to sit out the bulk of last year and this pre season.

Gets back and is a barometer of effort in his first game back last week.

He is everything that is great about leadership, hunger and the type of manic desire that will get us back to the top.

He will do whatever it takes to make it at the level and I have no doubt he will.

Worth investing in.

Would rate him as our 3rd best tackler behind Wardlaw and X. I get the lockdown of an opposition player, but 4 disposals in a game is not enough for a modern defender. I suspect they want him hand balling to a team mate and not kicking out of the backline. Hope he gets his body right and can contribute in other areas for the team.

He was involved in link up chains that went forward even if it was only 4 possessions.

If he takes out the best small/medium forward from the opposition then uts a win. He can have 0 disposals as long as his opponent doesn’t win the ball.

Pressure acts, 1%’rs are worth just as much as a disposal.

People read too much into “possession counts” its not ****ing supercoach.

If the half backs work hard enough, lets say goater and kerch have 50 effective disposals between them, thats enough push forward from the back line.

No doubt he has a crack, and I agree, he should get a game every week in the immediate future simply based on that. But I guess it shows where we are at, when we are applauding a 4 possession (1 kick), 4 tackle game.
We can understand that Kerch having 30 dashing out of the backline and Archer having 4 but shutting down his opponents (who at times was their 2nd best player) are both different, but good.

We aren’t building a team of SuperCoach players. It was obvious what the upside could be with this guy. People have screaming about our lack of defensive accountability. This brings it in spades.

Not Rawlings. He could see through all the fluff. Brady’s ability to spot hidden talent is unparalleled in the AFL. Particularly if they are a father-son prospect. Freak.
