Red and Black Preview, #36, Lauchlan Dalgleish

inspecting the footy

Age: 20

Height: 185cms

Weight: 77kgs

Games: 3

Position: Defender/Midfielder

Fantasy Relevance: Watchlist

Look Out For: Taking the game on, Blistering speed, Long, powerful kicking

The former Terang gift winner came from a long way back to win senior selection and a rookie upgrade, and will be hoping he can solidify a spot in the senior side in 2014.

Essendon fans only got a brief glimpse of Dalgleish late last year, but many really liked what they saw. Coming off the rookie list he brought pace, energy and precision kicking to the back line when others were faltering around him.

What to expect in 2014: Lauchie will probably spend a lot of the year right on the cusp of senior selection, so look for him to play 5-6 AFL games, and be emergency for a few more. For the most part though, Dalgleish will be hoping to build on his 2013 form with a strong, consistent season at VFL level.

Look for Dalgleish to probably play on a wing or a half back flank in both the seniors and reserves, and for him to use his elite pace and long, accurate kicking to break the game open and deliver to the advantage of his forward inside 50.

has all the tools to be an absolute jet, here's hoping

What's happening with this guy? Had hoped to see him pushing early to gain a cemented spot in the side.
Was about to post the same thing.

From what i can tell from other threads he was looking good in the pre-season but has picked up a niggle in the last few weeks and is being rested and will probably start the year in the VFL.

What i think is more likely however is that he is being hidden and will be a surprise starter for round 1. Starting off a HBF he'll pick up 20 possessions, fly down the wing like a greyhound on more that one occasion whilst tagging Harvey out of the game making him look like an arthritic chihuahua. Ma Boy!!!

hmm, doesn't sound like we'll see him in the seniors until maybe the second half of the season from what Doc Reid said. Achilles tendon injury and is still a few weeks away from full training.

I genuinely feel for this fella.

Having battled away with the stigma of being 'the bloke we got instead of Tommy Campbell' for the first two years, toiling away with little to no impact in defence for an undermanned and often undersized Bendigo/Essendon VFL defence. Finally hitting some heights in his third year with the club to break the door down through some fortunate assistance (injuries if memory serves me correctly) to play the last two games in 2013 earning a rookie upgrade to the senior list.

Having finally earnt his keep onto the senior list he has just had no luck what so ever. Achilles tendonitis in the pre season, a hamstring injury mid year and now a calf that is keeping him out is hampering us from possibly one of our greatest assets.

His long kicking, his pace, his willingness to work both ways, something a number of players at both AFL & VFL level struggle with.

We miss you Lauch, get back soon. I wanna see you in the seniors soon enough

I do mean it, though.

Reminds me a lot of him.

Funnily enough, the team sitting 7th on the ladder does in fact have some good players and sometimes it will be relevant to compare other players to them.

I'm not sure how that fits in with the "peasant", "minnow", "should fold", "we don't care about them at all" narrative.

Not to mention that we'd practically committed to taking Atley (and lets face it, he is a player we could really do with).

I thought Prestia was the one.

Pretty sure it was Atley. Remember the North supporter mouthing "Shaun Atley" to Dodoro after he carved us up in that last quarter against the Roos in 2011? Think it was all in reference to our welcoming Atley to the club on our website until the day before the draft we realised that Heppell would be available.

As for Ken, was looking pretty good prior to the injury this season.

Once he got a few games under his belt his defending was rock solid and he was seriously good over head. Have to acknowledge that it seemed to come at the expense of his counter attacking dash and his kicking was also quite scratchy less than 30m.

At this stage it is more important that he can defend because it is defence that makes him a genuinely viable selection. The run and the skill is natural and will come with confidence. Think he could end up the best kick at the club.

Yeah, I know Atley was in the mix, and a North fan found a "Welcome to Essendon Shaun Atley" video on our site, but I'm pretty sure Prestia was the one who was absolutely filthy that we'd gone back on our word.

I think all three are very good players and were picked in the right order; my point was more that comparing Dalgleish to Atley isn't done to annoy anyone or troll, it's a perfectly valid comparison.
