Re: ?. Neville Jetta

Fair way to go, but I think the Jet will finish the year strong and take out the "Best First Year Player".

Jurrah and Bennell the main competition, Bennell has been in and out in the last couple of months and Jurrah is starting from a fair way back.

Re: ?. Neville Jetta

Though Jet, had his best match for us yesterday and was very close to best on in the first quarter some of his work in tight shows why Bailey drafter him as a player who will move into the midfield.

Re: ?. Neville Jetta

Okay, I can't really give you a detailed assessment of Nev's first match for the year, seeing as I didn't attend Casey's fixture on the weekend, so I'll just go with some general info that I've found.

Stats: 14 possessions (13 kicks), 4 marks, 2 tackles, 2 goals

Brad Gotch's thoughts on his game:

It was good to see Neville back - it was his first game back, and we had to be mindful of his game time. We couldn’t run him into the ground for his first game back. But, he kicked two goals, and had fourteen touches. He’s a good player. To show that sort of thing first up after a fair while out was really promising. He had a fantastic crunching tackle on O’Bree at one stage, which is what we want to see from him - that forward pressure.

Based on that, it sounds like Nev had a pretty good start after his recent injury lay-off. 14 touches isn't bad considering he probably only played a half, and better still, his 2 goals indicate that he had a fairly big impact with his possessions. Further, the O'Bree tackle suggests that he's still playing with the same hardness and endeavour as last season.

Speaking more generally, I really like him as a player. He may not have the freakish speed that is often associated with indigenous footballers, but I think he has a nice mix of trickery and toughness to his game. I also think that both his agility and lateral movement are extremely impressive.

All in all, a pretty exciting young player, and it would be good to see back him at AFL level in the near future.

In any case, hopefully I can provide some first hand accounts of his efforts sooner rather than later.

Jetta was injured early in the season and when he broke into the team he had some strong performances early before he lost form and ended his season injuring his shoulder in a VFL match. 3\10

Disappointed, not with his game, but how he was used today.

Whilst he can kick a goal and he's not necessarily slow, his strengths are his tackling and hardness at the ball, so let him go at it in the centre.

His five-minute burst in the 2nd(?) quarter was awesome, the bump on Harbrow a highlight.

IMO, probably not, peterss. Who knows what effect Neeld coming in will have on each of the players, but Jetta seems to be an awkward type of player. Too short to be a really effective bollocking machine in the packs, which is his natural style; too slow to be a small forward, which is a role we really need filled; and generally fighting it out with the 4-5 small defenders we've already got.

He is a chance given the following:
-Neeld seeing him as able to play a specific role he can do better than anyone
-Neeld using him as an example that just because you're a player with potential, it doesn't mean your going to get games (see: Cale Morton) and thus selects someone who wants it more, in Neville
-injuries
-massive upswing in skills/confidence/fitness (see: Stefan Martin)

He could just be the type of player Neeld likes (think Blair at Collingwood).

Still fairly inconsistent but has never been far away from a spot in the 22 when at Casey. Gives you everything when he plays, just lacks a bit of polish. I hope he makes it.

(Have we ever heard him speak?)

MFC Website: Luckless Jetta injured again

MELBOURNE defender Neville Jetta will miss 12 to 16 weeks after having surgery on an injured ankle.

Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney confirmed the luckless Jetta - who played just nine games in 2011 after suffering a broken hand in round 12 and having a post-season shoulder reconstruction - has been placed on the club's long-term injury list.

However, Mahoney said the Demons are in no rush to elevate any more rookies at this stage.

9 games last year, possibly a handful this year does not bode well for Nev. Lets hope he can make an impact when/if he comes back in the second half of the season.

MFC: Jetta accepts one-match suspension

Match review panel finding:Neville Jetta, Melbourne, has been charged with a Level Two bumping or making forceful contact from front-on offence against Lindsay Thomas, North Melbourne, during the first quarter of the Round 18 match between Melbourne and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday July 28, 2012.

MFC: Jetta jumps back

“I knew I was going to get back this year, but whether I could get back to where I am now, was the thing that really played on my mind.”

Still, Jetta’s persistence and character shone through.

He played the first of his three games for Casey at the end of June, before returning for his first AFL match this season against Port Adelaide in Darwin in round 17.

Jetta has since played three of the past four matches, only missing Melbourne’s round 19 win against Gold Coast Suns at the MCG due to a one week suspension.

Having overcome a “mentally challenging” period, Jetta is now playing with a point to prove.

MFC: Pre-season update: Davey to Jamar

39. Neville Jetta
Neville’s first full pre-season has been a real standout. He’s looking confident and is starting to showcase a lot of his capabilities consistently because his fitness levels are higher.

MFC: Neville jets back into contention
You're quickly reminded of just how brutal this game can be when a player tells you that their number one aim is to start pre-season training.

In the case of versatile small Neville Jetta, that was exactly his objective entering this pre-season.

“My first goal was to start pre-season on day one. I had no off season surgery, so I was able to do that,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
