If it happens it would mean that this year would be only the 4th VFL/AFL season where North lost 4 games by a goal or less. The others were 1926 (5 - Haw 4, SM 2, Fitz 4, Rich 1, Melb 3), 1934 (4 - Melb 2, Haw 5, StK 5, Carl 2) and 1947 (4 - StK 2, Haw 4, SM 4, Foot 4). We also had a draw in 1926 and won no games at all that year. We were also winless in 1934 and only won 4 of 19 in 1947.

Given it's only Round 8 and our record in close games, my money is on it happening.

By that logic, we'll only lose one more game for the year. I like this.

Unfortunately boneofshin there was the much larger loss against Sydney in between the Geelong and Hawthorn losses, so the progression may happen but not quite the way we might imagine.

I suppose one promising thing about this year is that we have not been blown away in any of our losses. In the case of both Collingwood and Sydney, we were in winning positions and apart from that horrible few minutes against Sydney, we were by no means disgraced. In recent past years against sides above us on the ladder we have often been blown away.

This indicates, in my view at least, that we have made some further progress on the journey that we all hope we are on.

Is the issue we have been very good against strong opponents or we can close out a game ?

Sportsbet have a market on how many close games we will lose

What's defined in 'sportsbet's eyes' as a close game? Under 20? Under 12? Less than a goal?

Loss in Round 2 to Geelong by 4 points
Loss in Round 5 to Hawthorn by 3 points
Loss in Round 8 to WCE by 2 points
- so loss in Round 11 to Gold Coast by 1 point? Would the draw be with GWS or Richmond - that is, how does the bye factor in? Hopefully the bye does what it seemed to do last year, seeing us win 9 of the next 10 after it.
