It was hard to tell from level two but a few times last night his ability to get rid of the ball in heavy traffic was almost freakish. I remember more clean disposals than bad ones so if his efficiency last night was poor it was the the kicks and handbals in traffic that he probably shouldn't have been able to do that caused the low efficiency rating.

I hate to say it because I like SL but he offered us as much as Lonergan, for examle, has in most of his games. Good for Howlett and Essendon (because of the pressure for spots) but bad for the players he has gone past.

I think we may have found something.

i really like what i have seen on ben this year. Looks a likely type IMO and will play 15+ games. Was one of the few positives of todays game. Showed poise, smarts and skills during the first half i think we may have got a good rookie pick here.

Deserves to keep his spot the way he is playing... one of the few players to actually kick the ball on Sunday and wasnt afraid to take the Dockers on through the midfield.

Pity he is too old for a rising star nom.... Both he and Barlow would have got them for rounds 1 and 2 instead of some dodos called Yarran and Hanneberry.

I think people are underselling how well this guy reads the play.

I think he actually read the ball/play better than Jobe against Fremantle. His ability to get front and centre in a high marking situation, evade traffic and dish off was a feature.

Apparently not according to something I read today. A player needs to be under 22 as of January 1st and have played less than 10 games. I hope this is true. Howlett isn't 22 until October.

Now that Welsh and Dyson are out for 4 and 8 weeks respectively, I'd imagine all Howlett needs to do is keep his form he displayed over the first few rounds and he is a lock for the next month at the very least.

Hard work as a journo. Too busy looking at all those stats and supercoach points as part of their commitment to "investigative journalism" to actually watch a game or check a draft and, you know... have a clue.

Was thinking about making a thread, but it was the kiss of death last week for Atkinson . Anyone else love how he tackles, unlike most who slow down over the last metre or so, Howlett keeps accelerating so he hits with huge force, if he was 10kgs heavier he would be destroying teams.

This guy is a f***ing beast.
So strong in a tackle. I don't think I've seen anyone put him on the floor yet, and when he lays tackles they are absolutely brutal.
Love the way he goes about his footy, quickly becoming one of my favourites.

He reads the ball exceptionally well off the ruck contest. Noticed a couple of times on Friday night that he outpointed Dal Santo from ruck, which is no mean feat.

Yep he's been pretty impressive after the stint at Bendigo. Done enough to earn a spot on the senior list for next season. Great story.
