Trying to find out what the kid did this season before he went in for surgery. There is a youtube video of him playing against North Adelaide reserves this season, but on the SANFL site I can't see that he was listed as playing. From the clip he looks alright as a tall big bodied forward, although most of his opponents were under-sized and there is no vision of his ruck work. Any thoughts?

Watch the video posted by Foley#41 on the first page of the thread. Most of his highlights are of him playing in the ruck.

very awksward kicking style - hopefully can clean it up over the next few years. Good pick (i actually thought we'd go hayes here) but is very athletic and will be good back up to Nank and Hampson.

Will work well in the VFL over the next 2-3 years with Soldo.

its awkward but its not awful imo, not a hard fix i dnt think

yeah i didn't mean its awful, just has a weird drop and will need to get some specialised training for it. but his hand-balling and general smarts look top notch.

i agree, i think the fact thats his other skills are good bodes well for an improvement in kicking style

This is the pick I was really not sure of particularly when Allen was still there and also Constable who actually drifted into the thirties so maybe there are worries with him.

However, at 201 cmhe is ruck size and moves well enough for ruck. He is actually a bit like Elton except he is ruck size and plays ruck which is the big difference.

But what I liked is, apart from the way he moved in the vision, I heard one of the commentators, I think Ablett, said he was pretty much the best contested mark in the draft.

Well I am think if CCJ is close to if not the best contested mark in the competition, is ruck size with a strong enough body that can be built on and moves well enough from the vision and can seemingly play in a KPP role forward at least, well why not?

Happy enough and given the recent track record happy enough to place confidence the the recruiting efforts.

I actually think this has been a very good draft for RFC and trading 15 for 20 and 25 was a clear win at this stage for me!!

Heard a couple of times he has vice like hands and moves well, good tap ruck as well.

Sort of indicates that if his kicking was good he'd be a top pick (for a ruck).

What that all means for us is he can be a proper AFL ruck, and can get involved around the ground at that option for a mark, or lead up through the midfield mark and distribute type. Some of those guys are really valuable. They create extra options and force teams to cover the ruck through the midfield. Great mark means he hasn't got that unco ruckman thing going where you don't trust them to be at the end of a pass.

If we improve his kicking then sky is the limit. If not then we need players running past him in waves when he gets it.

Kicking is good obviously but if I had to choose between kicking and contested marking for a ruckthen I would go marking. It’s the best when your ruck can clunk a big one in the back half and then just handball off to a flanker. Gold

100%... nothing better than the big ruckman taking those big contested marks around the ground (take note Hampson), then the team rule is 'someone go past/around the back for the dish off) ... kicking low priority.

I recall how pleased i was once we all figured out that is what Maric brought to the table. as we see with Nank now a ruck that can get involved around the ground are worth thier weight in gold. Sandilands has done that for yrs against us so now we may have 1 or 2 that can do the same now.

Video up on the RFC website of him. Speaks well. He says that he'll be working closely with Leppa and a bit with Maric. Seems to me we got him more as a key forward who can give Nank a chop out than getting him as a pure ruck. I also read that Clarke said he was " too good to pass up" so we must rate him very highly
