We’ve been poor at developing talent for as long as Thy is old, but I don’t think you can fairly say Carlton is the reason Kreuzer didn’t become the player we hoped he might.

Injuries absolutely butchered his career. Sensational talent but constant injuries will have that effect regardless of how good your development program is.

100% The guy would take his eye off the ball when going for overhead marks for most of his career and drop most of them. It took a change of coach to change that later in his career. He went from a poor overhead mark to being pretty decent from one little change.

This was early junior development level stuff. Our development was dreadful back then. A Matthew Kreuzer who was decent to good overhead is one of the leagues best ruckman, he was never that, maybe for one season, our player development in that era let a lot of players down and we never saw the best of many of them because of it. Kreuzer is right up there.

Brought in to bolster the ruck depth on the eve of the season, O’Keeffe has developed solidly since starting at the Club in the pre-season.

Showing significant promise in the VFL, O’Keeffe has averaged 13 hit outs a game. In the past five matches, he has stepped up as the solo ruck averaging 20.6 hit outs as he shoulders the ruck responsibilities as an 18-year-old.

A towering 202cm prospect, who was the No.1 ruck with Vic Metro, O’Keeffe signed with the Blues as part of the SSP alongside Cincotta at the start of 2023.

“We have been really excited to see how Hudson has progressed this year.

“Having worked closely with our ruck coach Matthew Kreuzer, Hudson has shown real improvement in his ruck craft, showcasing his ability to compete consistently through the middle of the ground. He has embraced the Carlton way and we look forward to seeing his skills grow over the coming year.

Good re-signing :thumbsu:

Interesting to be given another 2 years....at the end of next year he'll need to be promoted to the main list, so they obviously see something in him.

He's a classical bash and crash style ruckman who's improving overhead week by week. Still only 19yo, so has a lot more development left in him.

Our list management crew are obviously putting together an engine room with an eye to the future with players like O'Keefe and Lord now into the fold. Add the Campo's, and Walker in a few years, and there's a nucleus there.

Has shown plenty of promise. Mirkov definitely gone at years end.
Mirkov suffered the setback with his heart last year. It's always going to be an issue for him going foward. Hence the club giving Hudson another 2 years.

He has been getting a good amount of instruction from Tractor :D

There's a shortage of mature rucks in the league. Factor in Gawn, Goldstein and others are getting on as well and I wouldn't be surprised if TDK offered super decent coin to leave or we consider trading Pito for a if he's not getting as much game time as he would desire. Thus keeping a young kid with promise is worthwhile and maybe even a tradeable asset if Pitto and TDK still around.
