Now hear me out..

We MUST give him some genuine and consistent midfield minutes in 2025.

We have not given him the best opportunity to be the best player he can be.

Absolutely!

He obviously has talent. He hasn't displayed it so far at AFL level. I reckon just give him a go for an extended period as amid and see where he ends up. Doesn't matter if it doesn't help us win games. If he can make it as an AFL mid we win long term big time.

I reckon his major issue is actually in his head. Get him more physically ready (reports sound good) and let him know he has eh spot we see if he can fill it.

i reckon he will most likely fail. But then I also see him making it, and if he 'makes it' he is likely to be very good.

we didn't gift dow games.

we had no players left in that position.
Dow played from Ground zero, with TT, JH, Prestia. Killer T_Sonz was suspended. Although he and Kmac2 were mids in the VFL Round 1. Then Dow held his spot.

Both Sonz & KMac2played well in the VFL.

Kmac2 and the new toys, maybe Ross, MRJ, are battling for mid time.

Ross peaked in 2019, now wing. Sonz peaked late 2022, its a shame Killer aint better up fwd. We desperately need goals kicked. Bolton & Martin need replacing.

You only have to watch that final in Brisbane to work out how much we have stuffed up his development since that game. Dimma only had his eyes on the prize when Taranto and Hopper said they wanted to come to Richmond.

Sonsie should have left then, not sure if we can turn around 3 years of damage though, he is a shell of that junior player, has no confidence and has forgotten what it takes to get a clearance.

I know a few here like to put the bloke down as lacking courage but this one really irks me with how the club has mishandled his development. Actually makes me wonder how our recent recruits are going to fair if they get treated just a poorly.

It's most definitely a mental thing.

Because of how we have played him he seems to not believe in himself as much as he should.

It's all about feeling like you belong.

We need to get to that point with him.

If we stuffed up players development then our ex-players who were poorly developed would be regularly popping up at other clubs and starring.

But they aren't.

Sonsie plays a certain type of game in the midfield where he probably needs to team functioning well around him to be damaging. He is good at what he can do well but his game seems limited to that at this stage. I am not sure that is the club's fault.

People saying "no free rides", "he has to earn it" etc I'd typically agree in any other year, but what do we lose by giving him a proper run of games on ball this year?
We aren't making finals, we are a lock for bottom two.

We don't actually lose anything by giving him a go. That way, people like myself won't have any excuses anymore.
Imagine if he kills it and gives us an added dimension to our midfield?

We are on the floor of our rebuild, we may as well test the foundations.

The coaches/selectors see these guys in training/match sims just about every day. If he was able to hold his own in an AFL midfield before now he would definitely have been played there. If he becomes capable, the coaches will know before us, and they will play him there if there is a spot available. They have to be left to pick the teams and positions according to their best judgement on the available evidence each week.

If Sonsie looks less capable than your 4th best mid of playing midfield, are you really giving him a block of games ahead of other young mids who are deemed better?

The selectors aren't there to satisfy our curiosity about whether a player could succeed in a given role.

We do lose something. 10 valuable games of experience that needs to go to a player that has earned the right by performance. Not gifting games. He needs to kill it in the preseason and demand a spot, else back to the reserves and probably his swan song.

I really hope Sonsie can grab his chance but no gifted games. Do it and do it hard Sonz.
