Levi is beasting it up forward this year bar his kicking... smashing packs like nobody, jagging marks over two defenders

beasting it i say!

yes he is.

his kicking has technical flaws but the inaccuracy has it's roots between the ears.

For mine, needs to play Fwd/Ruck as the general involvement in play reduces the pressure on his goal kicking. He's already in the game, so has opportunities to contribute and this I think reduces the pressure he puts on himself in the moment of his set shot.

Even misses when he gets his ball drop right, perhaps he just can't plain kick. If ball drop is the main problem, I wonder if he uses grippo. A lot of the big forwards who can't kick like Cloke do, it's the worst stuff out there IMO, never use it myself for the main reason that it affects disposal negatively. For mine his runup has never looked fluent and he kicks it too high. The solution could be at the trade table. Ideally played as a second ruck, but I think we are trying to develop Phillips and perhaps sell Kreuzer or at least try and make that combination work.

I've been a fan of Levi previously but my patience has all but run out.

He may have some of the best hands in the business but in front of goals he is, sadly, a complete liability. The fans have zero confidence in him when lining up for goals, and surely his team mates are not too far behind on that front.

There is no doubt that Levi's kicking for goal improved considerably last year with the help of Sav Rocca, but unfortunately since then it has gone backwards at a considerable rate. I find it incredible that Levi hasn't been able to carry that into this year despite Rocca no longer being around to hold his hand.

His inaccuracy may not have directly cost us any games this year but that shouldn't deter the club from making a statement. Levi's primary role in the side is to kick goals, and if he's not kicking goals he is of limited value. Chances may be few and far between for us this year, in which case he's got to take the most of his opportunities and at the moment he's not even close to doing that.

I doubt we'll go down this path but I'd have no hesitation in sending him to the VFL to see if he can turn things around. We obviously don't have much by way of competition for his spot but I'd much rather reward the efforts of Liam Jones or Jaksch or even Gorringe than settle for Levi's incompetence.

If he can sort himself out, fantastic; if not, he stays in the VFL. Trade at the end of the year to any club who thinks they can turn him around - because we sure can't and he can't/won't do it on his own.

How will sending Levi to the VFL fix his goal kicking issues. If he wasn't putting in and effort was crap then yeah send him to the VFL but effort is not Levi's problem. Being a shit kick in the AFL means you'll be a shit kick in the VFL.

Harsh but probably fair.

I still think he's a ruckman with very good hands

What effort is being made by Levi to improve his kicking?

If Levi's issues are not completely between the ears (I can only hypothesize one way or the other), then a stint in the VFL may serve as a wake up call for him and motivate him to go above and beyond to turn things around.

Levi has zero trade value. I dont think he would be picked up even in a PSD, maybe as a rookie ......... Levi is like an assault rifle that has a broken firing pin.

Another thing to consider is that I think the current regime is going to be less tolerant of flawed players.

I know not every player can be a champion. And every player has weaknesses. But when there is a major flaw, I think BB/SOS would look at that player and say 'not good enough, we need to replace him'.

You could have made a case for keeping say Watson or Walsh last year, but I get the feeling the club used the 'you are not a potential premiership player' line of thinking.

Levi is probably the best big forward we have at the moment, and I'm not saying we need to trade him. But if he can't fix his issues, I don't think the club will let him languish around on the list for too much longer.

Can we sack all ruckman that don't give us hit outs to advantage every time? Obviously they are not doing their job properly either.

It's just ridiculous at this point. How can we justify having a full forward who struggles to even kick the ball between the point posts?
It's all well and good to be able to clunk big marks but when he can't finish them, it's just a huge waste.

He needs to get his kicking right but dropping him... I just don't see how that serves us or him in anyway. He is a sole target in a terrible forward line.

Ive already mentioned it before, i have never seen Levi make a clear attempt to hunch over the ball and stay hunched over as long as possible to ensure the ball is drop as close to the foot as possible. So for me not all hope is lost

Take him to a farm and make him line up in one of those narrow sheep/cattle runs.
Wrap the sides of the runs with barbed wire.
Every time he deviates off the straight line, or swings his leg at a stupid angle, he gets cut.
You could also have someone walking alongside with a branding iron, and if he looks like deviating give him a prod.
If none of this works, pull out a screen and finish him off
Look forward to watching him swim at the Para Olympics.....

Other than the obvious team deflating factors, I find it such a shame because I actually really like Levi himself, he comes across as a great guy, his marking is a thing of poetry sometimes and his actual kicking power is tremendous.

He just has such an unfortunate weakness to his game.

Given the way the ball skews off his boot, maybe he should aim to kick it out of bounds and hopefully the ball will wobble through the big sticks.

Worked for my early few rounds of golf - consistent slice countered by aiming for the middle of the "next" fairway over.

Seems to me that for all of Levi's size and ability, he really lacks self-belief. The best forwards in the game have that swagger about them, the belief that they deserve the ball because they're the best ones to use it. Cas doesn't have that, it's not in his nature, and I don't think it can be "taught".

I wonder how he'd go if he slimmed down a bit and worked on his ruck-craft. Could he hold a spot on the list as a third-string ruckman/forward behind Kreuzer and Phillips?

Provides a huge contest and takes strong marks. He needs to just keep working at training and hopefully it will turn.
