I love Tippa I really do. It was so sad to see his decline in 2021...I just ran the stats;-

1st 10 games: ave disposals - 12.4, goals- 2 , tackles -3.2
last 10 games: ave disposals - 7.7, goals- 0.9, tackles - 2.4

He's almost halved his output - and lots of the 1 percenters he used to do were pretty much gone.... I really hope he bounces back from whatever it is that's affecting him...I really do. But the brutal truth is we may never see him run out in an Essendon jumper again :(

When the club releases a statement that says (I paraphrase) “ we hope this isn’t the end for Walla”…..it’s not looking good mate.
That's some impressively inaccurate paraphrasing

That is an extraordinarily bizarre reading of the clubs press release...
Not referring to the press release, a post popped up in my Facebook feed that I thought came from the club and had words to this effect. I was surprised when I read it and then got distracted and moved on.

In hindsight, it was probably from a supporters group or something similar. Of course I can’t find the ****ing thing now….anyway, my bad.

That said, let’s not delude ourselves that this isn’t looking really serious. We did that all last season.

Not all of last season. The issue started mid year. He was playing good footy until he got smashed in the Adelaide game.

Poor choice of words - he was in AA form early.

My point is that from the time where the decline started many chose to ignore the obvious.

Not sure that is totally fair as there was not a lot of info until late in the season . At the time it looked like a form issue until he was dropped.
Was not until the start of pre season that a few alarms started and even then unless you knew the back story it is an educated guess.
Right now I am not confident but the fact was he was back and putting in the hard yards for 5 or 6 weeks before his mental issues flared up again.
The fact is mental illness or depression or anxiety is never obvious or straightforward or even close to being the same for each individual.
Your assessment may well have been right but it was still not as black and white as you are making out.
I think there is a chance he has lost the fire but who knows for sure.
I know from personal experience that anxiety is a strange beast that can manifest itself in different ways at different times even for individuals.

I understand the nature of mental illness mate.

Let’s leave it here - I don’t want to sound like I’m more concerned with whether I was wrong or right last year than I am about Tippa getting back to playing great footy.

Bit condescending “mate”

You where not in the room and are not his doctor so you can only make an educated guess . The fact you know something about mental illness only makes it more educated than a total guess.

Not saying you do not know mental illness but let’s be serious and recognise it is actually different for everyone so unless you have the full picture you really are just filling in a few gaps to make your conclusion.
