I don't see it. He should be a break glass only option.

He didn't provide 5 competitive minutes in the ruck last year. As a forward, goals aren't really important for him, just running patterns and distance covered. He needs to run his arse off to create space for his teammates, think Ben Brown's first years with Petrie. Last year he mostly stood deep forward and tried to take pack marks.
I'm not saying it's guaranteed, just what's expected of a 3rd tall forward/back up ruckmen.
You're right that goals aren't super important from him. But he still needs to contribute, a goal a game is a reasonable expectation. He was averaging that last year until the s**tshow of the last fortnight.
Hopefully Darling will be able to help him, with his leading patterns. Still need Brynn to put himself in the target slot from time to time, can't always be Souv.

He's not a very good ruckmen
But if he can at least break 40-60 while X has a breather it's enough.
Competing with Pink and Finnbar for a spot, he starts ahead of them imo.

I think, or at least hope, that Comben will play forward and he and Darling will split the chop-out ruck role. I'd rather we played an extra running player than Teakle - I don't think he offers enough either forward or ruck.

I'm baised to Chom playing back, because I think he's got AA potential down there. But we may run with one of the Dawson's alongside Corr and Logue and move him forward. Or even play Jacko as the 3rd tall, if we want to play a more mobile side.
Will know more when we get to the full intraclub.

In any case Brynn is a 1-3 year holding player, while Goad and Whitlock develop.

I feel it’s almost time to take the cotton wool off Chom. His body is matured and whilst maintenance is a must he can also play in the ruck, where I think he’ll ultimately play some good footy.

No idea why this guy is stuck in Siberia.

I rate him.

Because he's still skinny and regularly struggles at VFL level against guys with bigger bodies. At the AFL level that problem gets a lot more obvious.

The success he has at VFL level comes against younger players or skinny guys.

I like Teakle but he's not an AFL level player at this stage. Will he get there? Maybe! Not writing him off... but there's a reason he is where he is.

I think as a ruckman he has no hope, even as a plan B. Someone like Tommy Campbell offered much more in that space, in case of injury to X.

As a second or third tall (if we choose to play 3 talls long term) he could offer something, but apart from catching it 2 or 3 times a game he doesn't offer much more (ie splitting packs, providing pressure, improving the overall forward structure, creating space for Larkey etc)

So if we do persist with three talls, he'll be competing with Maley and Trembath for a spot. If we only go with two talls, I think he'll be behind Darling who offers a bit more.

Teakle, it appears, is predominantly there for insurance in case of injuries and may not be offered a contract next year.

It might help if we actually kick it to him when he's in the senior side.
That's a fair point. I remember watching him closely in the Richmond game last year at Marvel, there were several times he was open and in reasonable positions but we just refused to kick it to him

He was BURNED many times a week because our players have tunnel vision and think they’re ESPN’s all time stars. Our players use the ball horribly and make bad decisions constantly. They’re all rather terrible footballers. Just some worse than others

There isnt one player on our list that doesn’t have some kind of game crippling deficiency
That's pretty close to the truth.

Xerri? I think you could say he is as good a ruckman as there is in the comp?

The only other one I don't know is O'Sullivan. I'm sure something will develop at NMFC that will set him back.

But yeah, every other player is either too slow, too short, can't kick, can't run, doesn't have a tank, one-sided etc.

You’re right, Xerri is pretty much the only sound player albeit his tap work is poor but he makes up for it and MAYBE Paul Curtis. His game is really good and doesn’t have too many weaknesses other than giving away dumb 50’s.. which is a deficiency

I think CCJs injury today (poor bloke, can't take a trick) has earned him a lifeline for next season. He also battled manfully against one of the better modern day ruckmen too.
