It's the same ratio in my household, regarding the popularity of Brussels sprouts. I like them, but only 90%. The rest of the family hates them, which (allowing for rounding) makes the sprouts 30% likes, but 70% disliked.

But they have to be cooked properly. Undercooked sprouts are not nice.

I 100% like them, but in our household 75% hate them 100% so you know the result. I still rebel from time to time though.

Only now cos we are s**t.

We need a mature winger with some endurance as Bailey Scott develops.

I'd rather he stayed but I don't think its the end of the world if he leaves and that particular trade could work for us.
Right now, as much he is the most marketable and likeable player on our list - a clear fan favourite - keeping Zurhaar with our list holes at CHF, CHB, Wing, HB and crumbing forward, is almost like going to sizzler, pigging out on cheesecake and trifle and forgetting to eat your main at the all you can eat salad bar.

As much as he is a match-winner, we need to be building a formidable foundation for our rebuild. Only if a win-win trade situation came about where we fill an actual hole in the list should we be entertaining an offer.

Nah man, sizzle matters. A smart list manager can plug those structural holes with canny trading or drafting the right mature age players.

But you can't just pluck out matchwinning talent.

To butcher your analogy, we can grab bread rolls anytime, but steaks (or Tofu if you prefer) only pop up very rarely.

I laughed myself until I wet my pants when Freo traded us a one man football circus in Winnie Abraham for a good but unexceptional player in Stuart Anderson.

Lesson: Don't be a 1990s Freo

More of a salad man with my Parma, extra olives if possible.
In case you haven't looked outside recently, it is winter.

Salad! That is summer food only.

I'm Joking, I prefer salad as well.

But this is a Cam Zurhaar thread so in respect to staying on topic (to keep the mods happy), here is the South African version of Chicken Parmesan (or Chicken ‘Parm’ as they call it)...

Considering we were tryin to ship the bloke off as far away from Victoria as possible, it was a steal.

Freo were good to us back in the day.
Got Bell for nothing then they gave up the kitchen sink to get him back, which we didn't capitalize on.
Winston.

There were a few more in there.

Also cant lose CZ he is getting better and better, One of the few players we have who can stand under the ball and mark it offensively.

Spider Burton ended up a great clubman and player for us too. Improved beyond recognition at North IMO. Probably gave it away a bit earlier than he needed to as well.

(we haven't been able to say either of the 2nd 2 sentences too often in recent times)

My other half carried on saying Spider ought to have been banned when we first saw him play against us (coz he was too tall).

Then, when he came to North.... Love Spider.

Look I completely agree, match-winners completely matter. A lot on here look back on the Scott era with disdain but really, we probably would have won a premiership or two had we had the best match-winner of the time (Martin) put pen to paper and put on the royal blue and white.

But match winners still play in a team of 17 other players. It isn’t basketball where getting a match winner into a mediocre side can mean winning championships.

We simply do not have the foundations - on field or off - right now to take icing over cake.

We have played a full season with one genuine key position forward and one key position back for crying out loud. No wonder the entire league laughs at us. Even the woeful sides sitting slightly above have the nous, the foresight to not hamstring your gun FF and FB by drafting a raft of mids and flankers and not providing a scrap of support.

If trading Zurhaar, a loved match-winner ends up turning into a player who can give our mids someone to confidently kick to across CHF and release Larkey, or take the second opposition forward to release Corr to be a third and McKay to further utilise his elite intercept marking trait, then I will gladly take that chance.

Totally understand your premise and logically yes, a balanced list beats putting all the eggs in the "star" basket.

Yet I can't help but notice that most premiers consist of 3-5 outright stars and then several players filling roles who were acquired a loe more cheaply.

If we're starting to approach the 8 (or better) in 2024, I reckon we can find a blue collar CHF, a serviceable or even better KPD or even a handy mature ruck from the state leagues or for the cost of a midrange pick from another list.

But you won't be able to snap up a Petracca, Martin or Bontompelli no matter how much currency you want to throw around. I rate Zurhaar's upper limit as a gamebreaker in those terms (not saying he will be as rounded a player as those guys) and would want a trade valuation set at that level.

Since nobody is going to pay that price to us, I'd do everything in my power to keep him as his internal vs external valuation would be so out of whack.

we aren’t even going to get a reach around if he goes.

How do you mark a ball offensively?

"Hey ball!"

what

"You're shit and I marked you!!! Now I'm gonna give you a good kicking!"

Ohhhhh

????

“I think he’s 70% gone” = “I have no idea what he’s thinking but based on the lack of any credible evidence or numerical data this is my unsubstantiated opinion”.

Or "I think he's 70% gone" = "his manager told me that because he needs to do something aggressive at the negotiating table to justify his sizeable commission"
