I’ve watched Anthony play for years now. I’ve also played against him and have trained alongside him on and off for the past couple of months up in Darwin.

He is an EXCEPTIONAL talent and his potential is as high as any Northern Territory prospect that has come through in years.

A hybrid forward that can play tall or small – he is quick, skilful and possesses plenty of tricks.

Great get.
he looks strong. both through his core and his legs. can you confirm that?
the highlights show him really driving through traffic and absorbing contact (trying to contain a bit of giddiness here :p)

I had this thought as well. Speed and skill often go together, but adding strength makes it a special combo.

Clearly an exceptional talent with a lot of physical tools at his disposal. Let's make sure he gets all the support and opportunity he can handle. Develop his weaknesses but let him play with the flair that makes him special.

would you see him tracking in a similar fashion you Maurice Rioli jnr at the tigs?

I love Maurice and even coached him as a junior ... but I'd say Anthony Munkara has more offensive talent to work with when compared to MRJ. He's bigger and better around goal. Rioli has better defensive pressure, but Anthony is a solid tackler and could develop that side of his game.

Yep, he's strong. Maybe not AFL-level strong yet, but that'll come. He shrugged off a couple of players in the AFL Academy game against Collingwood VFL and has looked strong and physical at times when training at the Buffaloes up in Darwin.

If you guys didn't have the wealth of indigenous talent I feel you would have picked him up.

Tigers killing it with your players.

Now we have finally committed to recruiting these players I think Dreamtime could be massive in a few years.

I think a lot of us had been. But, I have a feeling Munkara will be a gem in a year or two.
Agreed, to be fair, Francis had all the tools but not the commitment for understandable reasons. Hope he does well in Syd.

Munkara could be the steal of the draft. Super excited.

I think the quotes are from the draftee press conference yesterday but I can't find a copy of it to confirm atm

Growing up kicking a bottle and watching YouTube videos:
“I didn’t even have [a] footy because I was staying at bush,” Munkara said.

“So I used to get a bottle and kick it around, and I just got back to the community and would watch YouTube [videos] of Cyril [Rioli] and a couple of AFL players.”

Earlier in the year:
There, he was shown around by skipper Dyson Heppell and lived with McDonald-Tipungwuti, who he said has been “a good role model”.

“He’s been a mentor to me,” Munkara said, noting how he would text him regularly throughout his season.

“He plays like [a] small forward in the pocket and is really smart because when the ball comes down, then you know what he can do, just kick goals.

“I love watching him, and now it’s my turn to show up.”

“Since I was a kid, I was dreaming about AFL footy. I wanted to be like “Tippa” and Eddie Betts and all the players, so [it’s a] dream come true, and I’m here now,” he said.

Draft night:
“My name didn’t get called [on draft night] and then I turned the TV off,” said Munkara.

“Then after that, I got a call from the Bombers [from Adrian Dodoro]. They called me and said, ‘Welcome to Bombers’. I got emotional and excited at the same time.”

Munkara admitted it would be hard being away from his home and family, but said he had a good support network and was excited to prove himself.

“But, you know, you wanted to follow a dream so stick it out, keep doing it,” he said.

Think some water needs to be poured on some expectations here. Even Adrian said he had a long way to go on field and also off field.

Yep. Very much a speculative pick.

Managed to live in Adelaide for a bit so he has shown he can live outside Tiwi for a bit. He is in with the Davey boys apparently.

"HE KICKS IT LONG, RIGHT ON TOP OF MCDONALD-TIPUNGWUTI'S HEAD IN THE GOAL SQUARE. MCDONALD-TIPUNGWUTI BRINGS IT TO GROUND, PASSES TO DAVEY. DAVEY'S DISPOSSESSED. MUNKARA SWOOPS IN ON THE LOOSE BALL, DODGES ONE, SELLS SOME CANDY TO ANOTHER AND SNAPS TRULY! GOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! THAT'S HIS FIFTH! BOY OH BOY!"

I don't think I'm getting carried away imagining this happening.

The VFL forwardline will certainly be exciting to watch this year.

That is commentary at the 25 min mark of the first quarter of the 2023 GF.
