Think Channel 7 missed more balls today than Channel 9 would have in a summer
The host broadcaster is responsible for that. Here's what one of the deliveries on Channel 7 today looked like:

After flicking between Channel 7 and Kayo throughout the first two-and-a-half Tests, I'd probably say I prefer the Fox coverage. They have some better replays and graphics (like the one where they have fielders and the size of the gaps in the field) and on the whole I like their commentary team a little bit more. The only thing that makes it closer is Shane Warne, who I find to be unlistenable most of the time. He's got the Chappeli gift of flogging a dead horse so that any potential insight is completely lost, with the added bonus of smugly taking responsibility for any predictions actually coming to fruition. What a w***er.

In terms of direct comparison, I prefer:
  • Ricky Ponting (Seven) over Adam Gilchrist (Fox) for recent player insights
  • Mark Howard (Fox) over Tim Lane (Seven) for straight-man ball-by-ball calling
  • Kerry O'Keefe (Fox) over Michael Slater (Seven) for the more whacky commentary (although Skull is MUCH subdued compared to when he was on Grandstand)
  • Brendon Julian (Fox) over Damien Fleming (Seven)
  • Harsha Bhogle (Fox) over Sunil Gavaskar (Seven) for an Indian perspective
  • Isa Guha (Fox) over Alison Mitchell (Seven) for the token female commentary spot (NB - I don't think either of them should be the token female commentator, as they're both really enjoyable to listen to, just that they have been made the tokenistic commentator because they're the only regulars that are female)
The cutaways to Trent Copeland and Greg Blewett on Channel Seven are completely amateur, but I really like having them go to Simon Taufel for some of the contentious umpiring decisions though. Is he dressed in a suit watching the cricket at home though?

If I was going to put together my preferred commentary team, it'd be: Ricky Ponting, Brendon Julian, Isa Guha, Kerry O'Keefe, Mark Howard, Alison Mitchell, Harsha Bhogle, Tim Lane and Simon Katich. And it could never have Warne, Mark Waugh or James Brayshaw on there. Never. Ever.

So being a shitbag is fine as long as you don’t get caught?
Pretty much, I mean they clearly didn't expect the comments to go any further than the box. We don't even know how serious the conversation was.

Harsha Bhogle (Fox) over Sunil Gavaskar (Seven) for an Indian perspective

Harsha is an excellent commentator. Calls the game as it is, provides excitement when it’s there without going over the top.

Sunil is just a grumpy old man who hates Australia. I’m actually surprised 7 convinced him to come out here to be honest.

That was my expectation of him coming into the series. He has been much better than that though
